Ok guys so i stopped at the gas station on the way to work today and on the other side was a nice ram 3500 duallie qc 4x4. guy was bitchin about ULSD and how it's gonna hurt the economy and vehicles and what not. I assumed that he had a 5.9 since he was pumping the diesel which at this station is ordinary LSD. He then told me it was a 6.7 I was shocked I told him dude I don't think you're supposed to run that through the new 6.7L. It can hurt the engine and will hurt it. He told me nahhh I run an additive in this that allows me to run LSD and be fine. Is this true. He also said the trick was to beat the engine and really run it hard. funy thing was he said this wasn't his first CTD. I woulda thought he'd be smarter than that. So what happnes if you run LSD in the 6.7 or is it OK and is there a additivie that makes it ok. I just assumed after that he wsa just an idiot and that he'll find out soon enough.

 

There is no additive to make it ok. He will void all warrenty on the engine.

Your assumption was correct. He is an idiot ans he will find out soon enough, to the tune of about 2 grand. That's how much a new DPF is gonna set him back. If there was an additive that would make it ok to run LSDthe oil companies would be using it instead of doing the extra refining.

 

One thing I was told during training was that when the exhuast is cooled in the egr it will form sulfuric acid an eat the engine from the inside out.

 

That's what I figured but I just wasn't sure. the guy was like "ya man you just gotta work the engine hard and then it'll be ok to even run off road diesel in it" i thought off road diesel was just regular LSD with red dye in it.

 

off road can be ether ulsd or lsd with red dye.
the red dye just indicates that road taxes have not been payed.

 

I though refineries quit making lsd last year or at least thats what my uncle told me. He works for one of the big refineries.

 

this place had stickers for LSD and it said do not use in 07 or newer. I think the guy may have misunderstood me. cuz he was saying abou the uses an dadditive. Perhaps he thought I was telling him not to use ULSD and he was saying he uses an additive to help the ULSD better for his engine. but either way he's gonna be a sore one soon.

 

the big thing is the LSD will cause the DPF to go through regen cycles more often. . .and I would believe doing so would be a bit harmfull on it due to the intense heat generated.

and jake you are right. . .the EGR will create sulfuric acid over time if enough LSD is used.
