Default tranny problems...

well looks like mine has it's days numbered... just got back from the tranny shop & the 2nd gear band is at it's limit, the shifting on it has been sloppy and now I know why. estimated repair bill is $1500. an ATS tranny is $2240 + plus install of $500~600... the other option is go to the dealer and have it fixed under warranty. if they swap it out, i'd have to ask them to swap over my valve body which may raise some eyebrows... otherwise I loose it.

opinions?

I'd be leaning towards an ATS tranny @ 2240, & possibly a TC @ $1300... the way I drive my truck, that should be sufficent I'd think. I'm not one to go out & drag my truck but I do beat on it some.

what do you guys think?

Do you still have your old valve body?

I'd opt for
putting your old valve body back in,
having it repaired under warranty,
sell your newly rebuilt trans,
sell your better valve body,
get the ATS tranny

A lotta work, but it could be worth it !!

im with myfair the valve body wouldn't be that bad to take out.get fixed under warranty then sell it to help pay for the new ATS OR SUNCOAST.

drew's got a good point.. but it's more than the 2300..., there is shipping & installation... unless I do the work myself [:-] If I ordered the tranny before this one dies then the down time would be minimized.

the problem with the VB is I dont have the original, it was shipped back as a core. so if the stealer wants to swap the tranny out, they might not want to swap the VB along with it. too many choices here... I do have the $ sitting in savings however if you all recall I am still on un-employment [:@]... and my wife is in school full time which means very little $coming in.

How hard is it to come by a "used" old valve body?

Maybe you can have Jakes !!
