out of fuel
Well, after 74,000 I finally did it... ran out of fuel on the way to fill up tonight. Only saving grace with it is that I was making the left turn into the pumps when it died so I was able to shove the clutch in and let it coast to the pump.
Dang truck is hard to steer without power steering!
Anyway, I know it's not good for these trucks to run out of fuel, but it did fire right back up and ran ok the rest of the way home. Would any damage make itself evident right away or might it take a bit? And, specifically, anything I should watch for in terms of possible troubles?
Last time I ran out of fuel was in 1997.... I guess once every 10 years isn't so bad.

yeah I see that all the time on the powerstrokes I work on and running them out of fuel does kill the fuel pump, and sometimes a few injectors go with it. so a simple mistake sometimes ends up costing them over $1000 in repairs. i'm not sure if the new 6.4's are like that though since they are HPCR like the third gens.
