Should I buy a DMAX or Cummins
Hello all,
I have been shopping around for an early 07 duramax or cummins 5.9. I can't decide which one. It seem's they both have their pros and cons. I want a 4x4, quad cab/short bed. Auto trans. I've been reading that the Allison 6sp is a super trans. Seems nobody likes the 48re behind the Cummins in stock form. I willNOT be adding any mods to my truck. It will stay stock with the exception of gauges to keep an eye on the engine, I plan on pulling a 10-13k trailer a couple times a month.
I know the dmax has had injector problems with eariler engines. But I was told that they have fixed that in 06. And the Cummins, well it's aCummins. Pretty bullit proof. I have heard of injector pump issues with it. But is it still a problem for a 2007.
Fuel milage? I have seen on this site what people seem to be getting. On some dmax forums, they are posting a couple of MPG higher #'s. City and freeway.
I know that allot of people say that a heavy duty truck should not have a independent front suspensionlike the Chevy. But I don't plan on doing any sled pulling, or off roading. Not sure why I would need a solid front end. Seems like a IFS would ride allot smoother?
I like the looks of both. I basicall would like to know what would be a better pulling maching for towing. Seems like the Cummins in the best engine. I'm just not sure about the trans?
How does the Cummins compare to a Dmax when hooked to a heavy trailer?
Thanks guys/girls. Like your site.

w/ all the dmax's in big rigs...i'd say go that way. hold on...maybe it's cummins that in those trucks....hmmm.
so what did the guys on the chevy forum say....cummins is the only thing dodge has going for it?
just look at an rv park...lots of big dodge trucks pullin some big *** campers.
either truck is going to pull what you're thinking of pulling a couple times a month. which ride do you like better...which interior do you like and which price tag do you like.

look beyond the 3500 standard issue.
look at the 4500 and up..
what powers it???
CUMMINS!!!
even chevy has to go PRO when you need power in your commercial fleets !!!
I think all three are actually good trucks. I had a 2004 Silverado 5.3 V8 4x4 and it was a great truck. It spanks the Dodge Hemi in mileage. I got an honest 20mpg hwy with it. But everytime I looked at it in the driveway, its bland looks made me sorely miss my 2001 Dodge Ram Sport 4x4. So I went to buy a new 2006 Dodge Ram TRX 4x4. The salesman had me drive that, but could tell I wasn't completely sold, he suggested I drive the Cummins. SOLD! I never look at my truck and wish I had a Chevy or Ford, and my truck isn't even fixed up like many of the other guys on here. If I had waited another year, I would have gotten the CTD 6.7 with the 6 speed Auto, just my personal preference.
