OFF ROAD DIESEL
Wow, that was some BS from DC on that warranty repair, I would have been mad! They're always looking for an excuse not to do the repair. I guess when you go to the dealer and you are looking at any CTD powered ram what they need to inform you is that these trucks come with little to no warranty, instead of telling you that they come with a 3 year 36k mile warranty and that you can purchase an extended (worthless) warranty for $xxxx.xx more.
Sorry parts/service, I'm not ragging on you guys, sounds like you had no choice in that matter. From what I can tell, you are prolly the best parts/service manager i have ever heard of, and I hope you keep up the good work.

You mean I can't buy a CTD for farm use, if your on the farm you can run red fuel, that's BS and even I run a whole day on farms chasing gators at times, so why shouldn'tI be able to get a tax saving for the time I'm off road, 43 cents a gallon adds up quick in four wheel drive all day.
I would have my tank filtered good as the red stuff sits longer in some areas

I am sorry for the long post but I thought I would share some info. Running red diesel can result in the dealer not doing a repair under warranty. If a problem with the fuel system arises, the dealer is supposed to take a fuel sample. If red diesel is detected, the powers that be can refuse to warranty a fuel related part. From experience, we had a guy with a 3rd gen truck with a dead injection pump. We replaced the pump and sent in the core. Few weeks later we get notified that Dodge is not gonna reimburse us for a $4,600.00 repair because it had had red diesel ran through it. They said that the "trash" in the fuel had killed the pump. I called and asked how it was determined that red diesel was used and was told that there is a "wick" in the pump that detects red diesel. If you are gonna run red, please filter it good.
Even if you have a "Farm Truck" I don't think you are supposed to burn red diesel on the road.
But, I don't think that red diesel comes out of a separate well in the Middle East ... I thought the driver dropped a pill in the tank when he filled it onsite?

The trash in the fuel caused the pump to go bad, not the fuel itself.

Every farmer I know that has access to dyed diesel runs it in every thing they legally can, and some things they legally can't. They definitely run it in their own pickups, especially if they drive it around on the farm.
Just don't get caught with it on a public road and you are ok. I buy mine from a fuel distributor and he said it is the same stuff they sell as ULSD #2, they just put red dye in it and store it in a different tank.
No you can't burn red fuel on a public road for any reason even agriculture. Yes you can burn it on your farm in your pickup truck if you don't go on a public road.
I am wondering how trash could get into a lift pump and kill it? Was the fuel filter not working that day? It is possible that the place the guy bought the red diesel from had trash in their tank, or they sold it out of a rusty old tank out back. Fuel contamination is possible no matter what type of fuel you buy. Didn't some here just recently buy some fuel and it ruined their truck? Turned out to be water or unleaded in the fuel??? Can't remember who it was but I remember reading it on this forum.

I don't know the rules for farm use anymore, but when my Uncle had his in Indiana, his one truckhardly everleft the farm so had a farm use tag, but he could drive it to town to pick up supply's and that went for the red fuel too!
You get on some of the big farms in south Fla and they have whole fleet of trucks that never see the road , we been on a few that takes you 2 hours to drive around at 20 or 25mph, you get stuck back there you better hope there's a tractor close by or you where in for a long walk if the cell phone didn't work
