One does need to weigh the options for buying a gas saver. Alot depends on how many miles you "have to" drive every day. Also the purchase price and how long you will keep it will factor in. Buying a new car may cost you more in the long run. A used driver for 2500-4000 and keep patched up for 2-3 years might be a savings. I don't travel to work everyday, but I try to cut trips and combine trips when I do go out to help save. I rather spend a few more dollars on fuel or gas than make a freakin car-truck payment again. Been there one to many times.

I'm still in the "weighing it out stage" The way I've been figuring it is this.

First, diesel fuel right now is $1.00 more a gallon that regular fuel, so just from filling up a 30 gallon tank, I'm already saving $30.00 a week ( $120.00 a month )

Second, a Mini gets lets say 30MPG, whereas my Ram gets 15mpg, so now I am not only saving $30.00 on the fill up, but now I can go twice as far on the same 30 gallons

See where I'm at?

So based on that alone, right now I'm paying about $440.00 a month on fuel. If I was to get a car that gets 30MPG I could drive the same trips I do now forless than$200.00 bucks. Of course if gas prices do come up to $4.00 and diesel doesn't move, the savings will be less.

That's where my head is right now.

So nobody has any experience with the Mini's?

or go with something that even my rear axle can handle

http://www.smartusa.com/

my uncle in germany has had one of these for 6 years now, he runs a dental supply business, basically he fabs false teeth, and has to have his workers deliver them in the city so this son of a bitch can be parked anywhere, even head first. the two cylinder engines pistons runs horizontal and is under the seats since there is no front end. he gets around 60mpg

Yeah, that the thing that really pisses me off. I absolutely LOVE my Ram and love driving it. I feel 100% safe in it at all times. I think the Mini is as small as I would want to get. That Smartcar looks like a circus clown car.

Hey Kev, got any more badd azz VW's out there for sale?

Wht do you think of this? Good daily driver? Good MPG's?

Part of the reason I got my Hog was to help out with commuting. I am financing it, and as soon as I can finance a CTD ( want to save at least 6-7K for the down payment) Ill get that. Need something to get food and groceries and stuff as well as something to switch off from the bike. Did I mention being able to go off road? =) obviously its not going to off road like a Wrangler, but jut off the paved roads and on to some dirt roads or open desert are fine by me. Plus being able to run biofuel is another huge reason i want a diesel, jsut figured that Ill want a CTD so I can have utility and ***** to my ride!

I got no kids and no woman to worry about... so I figure I better get all my toys now!

haha nice, that or just making sure theyre too drunk to remember your name.

Mayfair whyd you go through with new meat and wheels if yer gonna buy a car. That's like calling your girlfriend after your wife got a boob job, let the newness wear off before you start looking around.

The minis cost a bit more to insure than a car of similar value due to the fact that they get totald out easily. They can actually come with 8 airbags. An economical small car are those yaris's from toyota, 11-14k 40mpg.

I'm with you though, I hate being in cars, too low, too small. Dont feel nearly as safe as I do in my truck
