Thinking about a Mini Cooper
Mayfair
Yea man ,, My kid has a MINI,, loves it ,,, except it uses SUPER,, it is fun to drive and will remind you of a go cart,, but IMO the VW Golf TDI,,, ( I am on my second,, first one is still in the family) will get you a longer lasting better riding and built car period !!!
My 2001 ,, fuel pump,, and 1 wheel bearing,, over 200000 miles on it,, my 2004 1 wheel bearing ( my fault )with about 65000miles on it, bothe get over 600miles per tank ( Lucas and PSD in the winter months ) .
The kid misses the 2001 he was driving before as the milage is not even close with the mini.

Mayfair: Honestly man, since you are just looking for something to offset the amount of diesel you use, find yourself a used 1st gen neon!! You could pick up a decent one for less than 1k and they get 35mpg!
Thats why I commute to work in this. 50 MPG. Its fun AND its a chick magnet.

Seriously, though, how often should I fire up my truck before I start adding stabilizer to the fuel or hooking the battery up to a charger? The weathers been nice for the past two weeks and I haven't started the truck since. As it gets warmer, I can typically go for months before really needing the truck, but I don't want to deal with a dead battery, stale fuel, or other side effects of parking the truck too long.

Ramit - I got the new wheels and tires because I needed them. There is no way in hell I'm getting rid of my Ram, I'm just looking for a more economical daily driver. Thanks for the heads up about the high insurance with Mini's !!
King - thanks for the heads up about Mini's useing the high test. I didn't know that. Kinda stupid to go that route then since super and diesel are so close in cost. THANKS !!
JR - I don't know why, but Neons just don't do it for me. My old ladyfriend had one, and every time I got behind the wheel I just wanted to drive it into a wall.
What about the XB's ? For some reason, I kinda dig em. They remind me of Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal Black. I may go and look at one tonight.Scion isa division of Toyota aren't they?

$3500 may or may not be worth it. they are "classics" so you better love the old dubs if youre gonna drop that kind of dough!
we have a lot fo bajas for sale here.
www.azbaja.com
http://www.chircoestore.com/catalog/smf/index.php
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/
craigslist and more.
just be careful if youre not familiar with the aircooled dubs. as with any ride, people try to hide the problems.
if any of our members roll through Phoenix, I will be glad to let em have a whirl in my baja. yes, you may drive it too

plenty of trails close by!
Get the Mini! I bought a 2004 Cooper S it is a fun car to drive. 32mpg city 6speed. Ive had it about 7 months. I had a 2005 Neon hated it. The Mini has more room than the neon, my wife and I don't knock elbows in the Mini like we did in the Neon. My insurance is just a tad higher not much at all. Get the S it is supercharged and pretty quick.
So based on that alone, right now I'm paying about $440.00 a month on fuel. If I was to get a car that gets 30MPG I could drive the same trips I do now forless than$200.00 bucks. Of course if gas prices do come up to $4.00 and diesel doesn't move, the savings will be less.
No matter how you cut it. It's going to take a good long while before it will be cheaper, than to just drive your truck. If you really think your going to be saving money, just buy some old piece of **** for under 500 bucks. I bought a old 1989 Honda Civic for 350 bucks, drove it for a year, then sold it for 400 to some kid. I didn't put one penny into that car. Ran like a champ 30 + mpg too.
