The only way a second vehicle makes sense is a beater for less than a grand (have to factor in repairs though) or buy a bike for 6k. There's a diesel motorcycle that the mil uses gets close to 100 mpg. If you do however buy a new car a toyo makes sense good price, reliable, will get good mpg and hold its value. It also will let you keep your truck longer.
I'm moving back to fla where gas is bout 4 bucks a gal, so I'm looking at buying an R6 for 7k, figure 8 gal of gas for the bike equals 26 gal in my truck so 32 bucks or 104 bucks a week so 288 bucks a month minus 120 bucks a mo for the bike equals 168 a mo savings plus I get a new toy as opposed to a car.

If you save $200 a month, it will still take you 10.416 years to pay for a $25k car with the $200 you saved. Also, gas always goes higher than diesel in the summer, when people up north stop heating their houses and turn on the AC. So it might wind up costing you more money to drive the mini in the summer months. So then how long does it take??? This very reason is why I still drive my paid for 11 year old 1500 with the 318 magnum in it. Yeah it gets 16.5 MPG, but I don't see the sense in buying a $25k new car with a $450 carpayment to save $50 a month on gas.
So based on that alone, right now I'm paying about $440.00 a month on fuel. If I was to get a car that gets 30MPG I could drive the same trips I do now forless than$200.00 bucks. Of course if gas prices do come up to $4.00 and diesel doesn't move, the savings will be less.
I did test drive that XB last night and let me tell you, those things are COOL !!! I know the looks aren't for everyone, but I kinda dig em. I could probably get the XB from him for 10K. The guy was METICULIOUS about records, and keeping it clean. Basicaly, if you were in the market for a good car, this would be it.
I'm still back and forth though. Kev, would that Manx get good mileage? That thing looks badd azz !!
For those who don't already know, I already have a bike and I do plan on riding it when I can. Unfortunately for my side work I need a car or truck because I need to carry stuff that won't fit into my pockets.

I just wish I could predict the future. If I knew now what was going to happen as far as fuel prices go, then my choices / decisions would be easier. Right now everything is so haywire that my head is spinning.
Actually it was parked at a gas station, so yeah, I guess it was driving pretty slow
Still though, I just could not place you behind the wheel of one of those things, lol.

Hay man I got a mini about 6 months ago. It was for my wife mostly but ended up being our only car. Upfront know this car is built By BMW. Parts are not cheap by any means. If you do get one I'd make sure theres at least a Beamer dealership nearby.Theres a couple of downfalls with the mini for sure. For how small they are they def have room. Im 6'2 and fit fine inside it, all except i have one pair of shoes i can use to drive with it because the pedals are super tight. Its a 2002 and the interior is a little cheap looking but not real bad. worst yet is its a little rattle trap, and it tracks pretty terrible. By that i mean it follows any ridges in the road badly. Keeps your hands full for sure. Onto the fun factor. The car hands down kicks *** to drive. Imagine a go kart with a hyabusa in it. This car will cut some serious corners. 1st gear is way to tall. Fun for screaming away from stop lights and doing burnouts (and yes the mini cooper s will easily smoke off a set of tires)but a pain for stop and go driving. The car came with a borla cat back and cold air intake so its gotta little extra from stock. (sorry im kinda going all over the place) i guess all in all, im happy with the car.(especially now since i got my dodge truck) If i was to buy a car again that i would be driving soley, not my wife, i could think of some better choices. Grandpa caddys are unmatched in comfort.
Yeah my 1500 gets 16.5 MPG. Yes that was hand calculated last week. IT is a 96 and it just turned 210k miles yesterday.
The MPG dropped to about 15 MPG and it started burning oil back at the first of the year and the engine was losing compression. I put a can of that engine retore in it and after about 2 tanks of gas, it is back up to 16.5 mpg! It has gotten 16.5 MPG since the day I drove it home. I did get 17.5 MPG one time but I drove it 50 miles per hour for about 200 miles.
Mayfair I've done that number crunching thing on a lot of things. I was going to buy a new car last year and when I found out how much I was going to spend to save $50 a month in gas I knew I ws crazy for thinking about it. I also did the number crunch thing on propane injection for the diesel truck. I think I would have to drive it 240,000 miles before the savings in fuel paid for the cost of the equipment. I'm sure that now since diesel is $4 a gallon it will only take 100,000 miles.
