How many miles do you get out of a set of front brakes ?
I have it written down, and it's almost to the exact day that I replaced my front pads, and tonight on my way home without any warning at all I hit the brakes and I hear that dreaded metal to metal sound. [:@]
WTF ?!?!?
Any recomendations on a good replacement brand that I can pick up at an auto parts store tomorrow? Hopefully the rotor isn't scored.

I just inspected mine this past weekend. Still on the factory pads at 85K with probably about 30-35% remaining.
Mostly highway miles so it's not like I'm being too rough on them. Even at that, impressed the factory ones have lasted this long.

Like CowboyBob, most of my miles are on the highway, and I use the exhaust brake 24/7. Not sure of the condition of the fron pads, but I'm pushing 60,000 miles.
I noticed at Gino's, they offer Mopar Value Line pads at $54.00 and Hawk HP at $60.00 to $65.00
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Well, I rode my scoot in today. now don't get me wrong, I LOOOOVE riding, but I enjoy riding on MY terms. Today, it is cold and windy, and the ride just sucked. Hopefully tonight I can get a set of pads and install them myself. I usually take my truck over to my friends shop mostly because he has a level floor and all of the tools to do the job right there. He usually steps in and winds up doing the job too because he says he can do it fast. WHOO HOO !!
Anyway, I doubt he'll be in his shop tonight, so I'll hafta try and do the job at the top of my driveway. What besides the pads will I need? Someone last week mentioned sanding the rotors down with sandpaper. What grit paper should I use? I never did that before.

It depends on the condition of the rotors. Have you checked those recently? If your brakes are grinding, then chances are they are scored and will either need to be turned or replaced. If they appear to be in good condition with no scoring, then take some 80 grit sandpaper in a circular motion around the rotor just to scuff it up a little bit.
Here are the pads I usually get:
