Programmer / Module A Good Idea??????
Got a 2003 Cummins 2500 with 120,000 miles on it and was thinking about getting a programmer like the Edge with attitude or something like that.
Do diesels with this many miles experience any problems when adding something like this?
What's the best brand module or programmer to get for this truck?

the only problem with a new programmer is... your going to want some new turbos maybe a new tranny bigger injectors and some more mods. it never stops with just a programmer most of the folks on here can back me up with this but most of us see it as the begining to an addiction. good luck

if you want to do it go with a smarty, edge runs hot, banks is way over priced, and the rest are pretty much too cheap... the smarty has a lot of options, but chances are you will be addicted and will probably turn it up too high and break something, just like the rest of us, if you can be modest with the tuning level and your foot, it is great, but good luck with that, i cant do it

Ya Im sure an extra gain in power at the push of a button is very tempting, my big worry was with the transmission wondering how it would hold up with the extra power and 35" tires. As far as the addiction goes its too late, Ive owned this truck for only a couple weeks now and cant stop searching for things I want to do to it. Thanks for the info

Do you have an auto or stick? Anything more than 40 hp over stock and you are looking at automatic transmission problems real quick. A manual will take a little more, but you will want to replace your clutch sooner rather than later.

my two cents
i have a 2007 5.9, 3500 dually, i upgraded the trans before i put in a smarty jr. i leave it on the 105 hp setting all the time, at my age i don't have a need for a smarty sr. but i know it can be addictive, i grew up in the muscle car era of the mid sixties and then more was always more.

re; tranny
i had a high pressure valve body installed, put a mag hytek double deep dish on, put a manual t/c lockup in and use synthetic trans oil with an additive, i also have a temp guage in the pod setup. i am on my third oil change in the tranny and due at 90-95,000 km's, it has 75,000 on the clock now.
