Default 5.9 Cummins 53

I have a 98 24v and just found out about the 53 stamp. I checked and it was a 53. Is that only bad news? Is there any hope to have a happy motor or should I save up for a new motor now? I don't have any problems and it has 110K on it, runs fine but worried about it.

Lots of people have 53 blocks with no issues. Jigabop is putting over 500hp through his '00 53 and has no cracks at well over 200k miles.

However if you want the peace of mind I will sell you my complete '01 24v motor, 55 casting block, for $3000

if only I had 3k LOL

yeah, no probs with my 53 block.

for peace of mind: don't work your truck hard till it reaches full operating temp, and don't build extreme amounts of power and take it sled pulling...sled pulling is the most stressful thing you could ever do to these trucks/engines.

I just drive easy till my engine is at operating temp, then I let full power loose. 236k miles and no cracks.

Pulling a sled didn't kill the trans in my 08.

Power braking at a reeeeeeaaallly long red light waiting to do a ~15 psi 4wd launch is what melted my clutches.

Wow, How did you get 1073 torque with slight mods? I cut out my muffler and had a pipe welded in replace. Removed the silencer ring out of the turbo. I'm about to get a cold air intake. I heard that the edge juicer programmer is the way to go. What other mods are capable without taring apart the motor?

I have a bunch of stickers! but they are not on the truck...

I have a little bit done to the truck...

airdog150 lift pump + modified liberty fuel module from vulcan
south bend 3600DD clutch + HD clutch hydros
full 5" straight pipe exhaust
S357 over S475 compound twin turbos
DDP +150hp injectors
quadzilla Adrenaline w/Pulse custom tuned fueling box
couple boost gauges (1 for each stage of the twins) and a fuel pressure gauge
the rest of the gauges are on the pulse monitor (EGT, trans temp, coolant temp, corrected vehicle speed)

then there is another list of mods that are not performance related. (like 4th gen steering, in-dash nav, CB, etc...) Lets just say I have more money tied up into this truck than I paid for it but I have no plans on ever selling it, so I don't care what it is worth to someone else, because I know what it is worth to me.

truck is about to be more powerful yet...

I have HD push rods and 115# valve springs sitting in boxes waiting to be installed, and I'm about to order some 6x.013 injectors from Weston. Soon as injectors get here, I'll install them and the springs and pushrods at the same time since I will have the valve cover off anyway... then adjust the valves, and do some wastegate adjustments and fueling/timing adjustments on the adrenaline...soon as my butt dyno thinks everything is working together smooth and proper, I'll take it to our dyno day that is comming up and see what it is doing then...

my guess will be high 500hp to maybe low 600hp range...
