Use Fleetguard filters and 15w-40, Valvoline premium blue or Delo 400 or Rotella T are the ones most people use. This subject will get a lot of responses. I change mine every 5000 to 7000 miles. I check it every few days and add any if it needs it.

also make sure you change your fuel filter... a clogged filter will hurt your mileage... ask me how I know... lol

actually, I think if your doing mostly hiway with light city driving, 7500~10k mile intervals should be good... that's what i'm on. I just switched to synthetic (Rotella 5w-40) and dont like it much. I cant find any other synthetics locally otherwise i'd be using the Mobil 1 stuff (my preference)

maint items...
air filter
oil change/filter change
fuel filter change
diff fluids every 15k according to the shop manual.
Also your Tranny needs service as well as your transfer case...

I'd assume thats if your towing. I just swapped in some red line 75w-90 in my diffs since i'm not towing and noticed less drag while coasting. It may actually give me a bump in milage. time will tell since I keep track of the mileage.

go to the top of the forum and click on the merry christmas thread... there is a page with a link to your shop manual...

I like Amsoil and i like it so much anything mechanical around my house that needs any type of oil it gets amsoil, fromatv's to my cummins. I've been using it in all my diesels also. My 97 worked well with amsoils 5w-30 in all temps from -20 to 117 and i sold it with 180,000 miles and no problems. My 1992 dodge ran 15w-40 for the entire 285,000 miles (sold it) and no problems. I have also had in emergency cases used rotella t with no problems although not in extreme weather. My 06 cummins likes the 15w-40 ( afraid to use 5w-30 for warranty purposes) in amsoil. my fuel mileage is also 22.5 on highway not all due to the oil i'm sure but it cant hurt.

I am very happy with the amsoil in my 3500. My truck is about 4 mo. old and I have about 40,000 on it. I am going to get the by-pass filter on as soon as I can. Hope this will help. Gametrail

Stewtina,

I asked Amsoil if they had a 5w40 syntheic for the 06 CTD, their reply was to use the Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil. The owners manual said we can use 5w40 if it is synthetic so i see no reason to not use Amsoil 5w30 HDD.

My self I can not see using 15w40 come winter time when it can get down to 40 below zero, even if I do not have 20,000 on it by that time.
