Aero Turbine (again)

RE: Aero Turbine (again)
mayfair, did you recal the speedo for the new tires yet? also are you compensating your odometer reading for the offset the new tires has on the odometer? to give some perspective... my 285's on my 2000 was 8.7% off, 295's were 9.3%, recaled the speedo on it and gained ~1.1 mpg.
also re-caled the speedo on the '05 with the same ~1.0~1.1 mpg jump.

Actually, I haven't Steve.
I thought about looking into it, but what I noticed is that when I roll past those speed check things that the cops put out is that what they read is pretty much dead on to my speed. Same was true with my old tires as well. We have one here on a side street so I can drive past it several times at different speeds and I have. Looks good to me ... I dunno. I went from 16" 245 75's to 17" 265 70's.
I dunno ... maybe I'm fine ....

I'd still do it... it'll make a difference. look at this example...
300 miles/15 gal of fuel = 20 mpg.
300 miles * 1.05 = 315 miles/15 fuel = 21 mpg.
300 miles * 1.087 = 326.1miles/15 = 21.74 mpg. (my offset on my 2000 ram).
if your speedo says 35 mph & your 5% off, 35 * 1.05 = 36.75 mph
you can easily see it and say it's good. add that up over 300 miles/1000 miles etc and it will show pretty easily.
I had a chance to use the mile markers in Oregon for the 2000 ram with the 285's on it, clocked it over 50 miles to get the error. when I put on the 295's I had a chance to follow my wifes stock dakota and compare my odometer vs hers...it was 9.3% off. I used that number when calculating the mpg. Then when I got the speedo re-caled, for some reason I gained 1~1.1 mpg vs the non-caled setup. I dont know why but it's been sugested that it could be in the tranny programming (shift points & effeciency).
hope this makes sense...

I guess I'm not as concerned about it as you are. Bottom line ( to me anyway ) is that when the gauge reads "E" then it's time to get fuel. Regardless of the mpg, when the tank is empty, it's time to fill er up.
All I know is that with my new rims and tire AND my Aero Turbine, I think I'm getting between 1/2 - 1 mpg more than I was before the Aero. That pretty much equates to one extra trip to work.
Where did you hafta go to get it recalibrated?
Was it expensive?
What did it involve?

I do it because I want to know what does what... it helps others who are shopping for perf. parts. In the end, it is what it is... I would just like to find the sweet setup that gives me my cake (cheese cake) that I can eat it too...
I have a TST box on it's way, the one with the CR49 programming... 81 settings... oh yeah! plus timing and an auto shutoff on the EGT temp.

One of you guys who installed it mentioned that you felt your low end torque improved, can you give me an idea of how much (butt dyno, passing & any other indicator), and what it did for your top end?
thanks

When I added my new rims and tires, I noticed that my truck felt like a slug out of the hole, and also seemed to take a LOT of effort to get up to and maintain 70 mph. I was bummed indeed. The truck now looked cool, but unfortunately at the cost of out of the hole and top end performance.
Once I put the Aero on things were back to the way they were before I put the rims and tires on. I could once again pop out of the hole, and cruising at 75 mph was no longer labored at all. Night and day difference for sure.
I'm not trying to sell anything here, but without a doubt I couldn't be happier with this exhaust. If I had put it on and it sucked, I'd be the first one to tell you so, but that isn't the case at all. To me, it's perfect. Keep in mind though ... I didn't step up the size of the exhaust at all. I continued to use the 3.5" downpipe and I went with the 3.5" Aero. I know some guy's step up to 4" or 5", but I left things at 3.5". The turbo seems to spool up right from jump.
Not sure if that makes a difference or not, just letting you know. It may be a backpressure thing that works in my favor, I dunno.
