I have redline in the front & rear diffs... which reminds me, it's almost time for a service on them...

I am going to start at my first oil change in my 06 CTD. That will probably be my only use.

you need to wait about 30~35k before switching, unless your towing heavy and towing often. if you dont, the rings & bearings will never seat right... or if they do it'll take forever for it to happen.

Not true, after 12,000 miles the engine under normal conditions have had enough time time to properly brake in. Breaking in includes in the bearings setting and the piston rings setting. The heat cycles after roughly 4,500 miles under various load conditions and rpms allow the connecting rods, block, pistons, etc. to be stress relieved from the forming process. Notice if you change your own oil, the first one screen the oil, there are lots of metal shavings, and the second there are less and so fourth till the 4th oil change and there is minimal. This is due to the fact that the piston rings don't have the extremely tight clearences that it did when it was new. I use amsoil only in my dirtbike. Amsoil will last their various intervals, yet their oil filters will not. If used on an older engine with many miles and/or leaks, it ends up costing more. Not recomended for two strokes because the fuel and oil tends to separate.

acording to the cummins site... between 5~20k you should not use synthetic... per their FAQ
http://www.cummins.com/na/pages/en/p...2180C4A8F00000

better to wait in my opinion till the 30k mark. I was told by a diesel tech that it takes that long for everything to seat properly if you are not towing. His words were something like "if you switch too soon, the rings & bearings will take forever to seat"

If you tow heavy & often, it'll be done breaking in sooner. everyone has their own opinion and is entitled to it, mine is wait until 30k...
