Default Check engine light with only 2800 miles

Not sure what happened. I went to start my truck tonight and my check engine light came on and stayed on. The only thing I did to the truck was put the block heater cord on. I did not have to dissconnect anything and did not notice a light after I installed it. I tried five or six times still the light. Dove a mile or two let the truck sit then tried again, still have the light. Came home and tried the old dissconnect the battery trick. ( yes I undid both ). Still have the F**%ing light and my sat radio did not work. Got the Sat radio to work. Tried to get some type of code but no luck. The light flashed 10 times but I cant get a code to pop up on the odometer[/size], it just reads total miles on the truck, not sure if when I disconnected the batt. it reset to a default setting. I also went out and dissconnected the heater cord and still the light.To late to get the dealership on the phone, so I have to get up early and find out what is wrong with my baby. Any ideas really dont want to drive 40 miles to have someone say " OH it was nothing". Thanks for any help you can give me.

as long as the light is not flashing you are doing no damange to the engine. if it flashing turn it off imeditally.

Well I called the dealer and they cant get me in till Thursday. One dealer said next week and I saidever mind. Well i took it to autozone and the code is P0514 battery temp sensor? I looked it up in the F&Q section and its not thier. I guess I just have to wait till the dealer can look at it.

no way... lets see if we can find where it is and fix it... I'll bet you knocked off a connector. have a look on the passenger side battery for a sensor or a loose plug. lets start there for now. when I get a chance i'll have a look at jasons truck ('06) and see what's there.

the battery trick does not work well if at all on the diesels. I tried it earlier and couldnt clear codes. my codes did come up on the odometer though.

OK, I looked in the manual and there are temp sensors on each battery, you must have knocked one of the wires off the temp sensor or it's disconnected. it doesnt show the location but obviously it's gotta be on the battery, have a look and let us know what you find.

thats a useless code. . . . . . . . . .

when the truck starts up the batt temp, and IAT have to be within a certian percentage of each other or you'll get a code that means nothing.

if you have no degraded performance autozone can clear it and you can be on your way.

Just bought a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 CTD one week ago. Now with 8600 miles, exactly, the check engine light came on and won't go away. This is the first diesel truck ever owned and thought I would go with Dodge for engine reputation. Any ideas if this is similar to the battery temperature sensor, or maybe something worse?

Would have thought it would go more than 1 tank of fuel prior to having issues.

Drew: What is IAT?

HELP

IAT = Intake Air Temprature.

just cycle the key from off to run but do not start. it will throw up the codes then say DONE. if it says done with no codes hit up autozone and have them check out the codes, if it is that batt temp out of range then ignore it. the biggies you DO NOT want out of range are boost and rail pressure.

if the same code keeps popping up then take it to the dealer, there might be an issue with the sensor. and why there is one there I have no earthly clue, just another thing to go wrong I guess.

I looked all over for this sensor the only thing I could find was one on the driver side battery tray. I never was on that side of the truck. I looked at the other battery tray and found nothing not even a place were a sensor would go. The only thing I can find is on the net and it said it could be a bad sensor or a few people have said that they get it whenever the plug in their truck. Some said TSB 18-005-06 might help. Dont know kind of dissappointed about having the truck 2 months and have to go to the dealership. Any more ideas?

I figure it has to be a loose connection on the sensor. reason being is he just installed his block heater cord and then the code came up. probably a simple fix, locate the sensor, re-seat the connection, take it to AZ and have them clear it. if it comes back then consider the dealer option.
