Here we go again. She's found a 2002 or 2003 2500, single rear wheels, diesel, quadcab, longbed, 200,000 miles, 5 speed manual. Super clean, little or no towing, claims almost all highway miles. I need to know everything to inspect or check before 8am. Please help me out. Dealer is asking $10,900.

 

I could be wrong but that seems a bit pricey for that kind of mileage?

 

KBB and NADA say $15k and $12.5K. So far NADA has not been off much for me. Prices are running $13K+ for trucks 160,000miles or more. Found one for 9K, but beat up, run hard, oil and coolant leaks. This is a dealer, not private party. Please keep weighing in on pricing thougfhts and other things to check.

With correct numbers $11,100 and $11,600 from NADA and KBB. Ebay about $9000.

I've got sales adds for two other diesels with 150K miles for $10,000, but they are automatics. There are a lot going for $12K to $16K in the 180K+ miles range. I'm leaning towards decent price at $10,000.

We want service records if possible, and the dealer to do a lift pump check, injection pump check, Track bar/ball joints check, clutch check, and check if it's the dreaded "53" block.

Any other helpful tips? Interior or body checks? Things I've missed in the drive train?

The truck looks clean but damn .... I dunno ..... something about spending 10K on a truck with 200K on it just makes me nervous. I know the engine probably still has 100K + left on it before rebuild, but what about the rest of the truck?

I dunno ... maybe it's just me. I think I'd rather spend a little bit more and get something with a little less mileage. That's just what I'd do though.

 

I'm with Donny, 10k for a 200k truck seems like your asking to take over the PO's potential problems... with the rest of the truck. Unless you see documentation that supports repairs to the major $ fixes (tranny, front/rear end etc...) expect to have to deal with them.

 

With or without doccumentation, I'd still be nervous. Nothing lasts forever.

 

yeah but if there's been a paper trail of repairs done, it gives you an idea of how the PO took care of it. some owners dont take care of their trucks and they get run into the ground.
