We got Harley (black lab) when he was 4 weeks old. He is now 70 lbs at 10.5 months and still growing. As for his nails, he spends a lot of time digging and being a dog on our property so I rarely have to do anything to his nails. I should note the breeder had removed his du-claws before I picked him up.
As for stink, yes, he does stink. We have tried different foods (slowly introduced), shampoos etc. He just has a stink about him.
He also has very bad gas. When this dog lets go, you cannot be in the same room. Its like a battery acid cloud.

My dogs are prissy- they will not poddy in the house and if you leave them in the kennel all day- they will hold it!!! Love it! But poor dogs- thats a long time to hold it. The other day I went out to buy my snowmobiling gear and when I came home I knew one of the dogs had an accident somewhere. I searched High and Low- nothing. Found nothing. It's cold ou6tside and I had to leave the doors and windows open for 1/2 hour and the smell still lingered. Nice thing about big dogs. You otta smell a hound dog..... when we used to lion and bear hunt, you could drive down the highway and still smell it in the cab of the truck.
MrSlug- they grow until 2 years or more- gonna be a big sal.....
By the way- the couch in the background is just one of the many that had to go to the dumps!!!

ahahaha, thats funny. Louie is not bad at all we have him on some high end food for his coat and I think that has something to do with it.
i tried the treat thing... they have this dog food that comes in a roll kinda like liverwurst that he will almost kill for. tried using that as bribery treats but it didnt work. I can get him to sit and give me 1 of his paws ok, as soon as he sees the clippers he starts getting squirmy. In the past I even went as far as to hold him down so he couldnt escape and have the little woman do the clipping but that didnt work either. that dang dog is strong!

here is one of our pups. He loves the truck. We go rollin without the other two all the time. my wife jokes with me and says its louie's truck (the dog) and not mine. I don't see him making the payment........

Dude, that is EXACTLY what I was thinking about getting. I love those dogs. I was also thinking about a Boston Terrorist as well.

Here is a site I found might help with him running off when seeing the Clippers!

Seems like it might work. Just have patience.
When it's time to clean the cocker's ears she would bite soooo hard and she would hide and get really mean. Eventually I had to hide the bottle until someone grabbed her and I muzzled her with whatever, socks, bandanas etc she would fight and fight to get away. But she was small enough 2 people could hold her and do a half butt job on the ears. Couldn't imagine my big dogs. When we play with one the other has to intervine- and you can't hold them back. Feel for the wife- thats alot a work.
I give her a high 5!!
