Nope he just takes it!!! Can't leave anything around. Shouldn't be to hard- your dogs still young and hopefully you can train him to bring it back. I love labs cause thats all they do is fetch. I have trained hime to bring me: my purse, pillows or blankets, socks, boots, screw drivers, toys, phone, remote, skate board to! toys of course, anything I point at he will remember the name and bring it back. Pillows was hard cause he wanted to keep it in his mouth, all nice and soft and would surely make a mess of the place. Will not teach him to open fridge- they are pigs as it is. Chomps doesn't do much- he's lab/ shepherd. He'll run around with a toy in his mouth and wants you to chase him! Bad idea!

I'm a German Shepherd breeder. Everyone has good advice to start them as puppies always touching there feet. Some dogs just can't stand it. So have to be sedated. The best thing to try is exercise them first. Get him exhausted before trying anything. Then start cutting. The next step would be the to exercise him then have your girl feed him some dry dog food one kibble at a time as your cutting to distract him plus he will associate nail cutting with happy times and treats. If all fails, just hate your vet do it. most don't charge much and it's worth every penny for the stress of trying yourself. Here's my Site.

Just take louie to the local vet. It will save you and louie the hassle. My youngest boxer, major payne, is so retarted that he doesnt know what we are doing until we are done. He thinks we are playing with him. Now tucker, he is 6, on the other hand we have to hold down and then trim them. He doesnt go crazy, he just isnt going to sit there and let you take hold of him.

We don't trim our dogs nails. We run her on pavement in the grass, in gravel. Every day she gets some kind of play time on various sufaces. This seems to keep her nails worn down. Now ears that's a different story. She is a lab / pointer mix that weighs about 80 lbs. She doesn't like to have her ears cleaned, but like a lot of labs, she gets ear infections if we don't. She knows my wife and I are the Alfa male and female of our pack, and so she submitts. Watch the dog wisperer on the National Geographic Channel. That guy has it all figured out when it comes to dogs.
