Thanks Alloro,
That was the problem. It is the first thing I checked and the man at the auto parts tested and said it was fine. So, I proceeded to change the camshaft sensor and then the crankshaft sensor for nothing. At least I have all new ignition system now.

Thanks again.

Nice, glad you got it running. You can always keep the cam and crank sensors for spares. Sometimes the aftermarket ones don't last as long as the original ones.

Default cannot start

It just happened to me. I parked my 1994 Dodge B350, 5.2l, 318 in my driveway and went to start it the next day and it turns over but does not start. Here is they way I got here. When I first bought the van it needed a starter. When I put a new one in I had to turn it over for about ten seconds and while leaving the key on had to wait for the fuel pump relay to stop clicking (at first it was a couple of seconds but then ended up somtimes to up to an hour not that it would click for that long but just toget it to start clicking, the clicking would last about a minute or two) Then I could start it right up and the rest of the day had no problem starting it as long as it didn't sit for more than a couple of hours. The next day would start all over again. I replaced the fuel pump relay but still happened. Replaced fuel filter and the fuel pump but nothing worked. Was out with working on it with a friend and found out that I have no spark to the coil on the distr. cap. And also the fuel pump does not work when the key is first turned on but it does work when hooked up to 12v. I heard that it could be the auto shut down relay but I called 3 parts places and they never heard of one. Could it be called something else and where would it be located. Thank you in advance for your help

Relays clicking when the key is turned to on is likely a sign the engine computer is failing.

Do s asearch for 'key dance' and see if the computer has stored any codes

The ASD relay is a standard relay. look at the sticky at the top of this subforum

It's your PCM (computer.)

If you want to verify before getting a replacement use a hair dryer. Use the hair dryer for 5-10 minutes to warm up the PCM, not hot, just warm. Once you've warmed it up see if the engine starts easier.

Is the crankshaft position relay before or after the asd electrically and is there a test procedure to check if the sensor is doing what it is supposed to be doing.

Since the fuel pump relay is being affected, your problem has nothing to do with the crank sensor. Both the ASD and fuel pump relays are turned on or off by the PCM.

I am having ignition troubles with my 94 dodge ram van b350,5.9 liter as well(seems to be a lot of this happening with this model). I already have gone through replacing pretty much everything in the ignition system. Including coil, coil wire, cap and rotor, relays(the double relay on the firewall),and crank sensor(in that order). Additionally, all fuses and fuseable links are good. It seems to only start in the afternoon when it gets very warm outside. It won't start in the mornings or when it has cooled off outside, not even sure if temperature has any affect on the ignition system at all but figured more info is better.Hoping it's not the engine control module, but I wouldn't know. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Try heating the PCM/ECM with a hair dryer for 10 minutes and see if it starts then. If so then yes the PCM/ECM is going bad and will need to be replaced.
