Default Tips to discreetly run an extension cord into van?

2000 b1500.

So...... I have water problems. I have basically concluded that rain water is getting into my van from two sources (I already filled some screw holes on the roof with silicone which seems to have fixed that leak). First, I'm 90% sure that it is seeping through a seem on the passenger side rear and coming out of a gob of seem sealer at the van floor. Second, because my van is parked on a slightly sloped driveway the rain water flows from the roof back to the roof lip, then overflows and drips under the lip and down the interior of the cargo door, then it drips onto the floor. When I open the door there are water splatters all over the back floor of the van.

Anyway, so because of the water I'm now fighting mildew all over the dash and vinyl seats. I put one of those DampRid buckets in there but it doesn't seem to be helping or collecting any water. So I ordered a cheapo Amazon 2L dehumidifier. That means I need to run an extension cord into my van, but I also don't really want to make it obvious that there is something in my van that can be stolen. Not that I care about a $40 dehumidifier, but the cost to replace a broken window would be a lot more.

Suggestions for a discreet entry point?

Any plugged holes in the floor? Usually, there are some that will have a plastic filler in 'em. Under the carpet of course.....

Well I wasn't planning on pulling the carpet though it is filthy. I was kind of hoping for some easily accessible hole in the firewall. Now that I think about it I could probably pop open the dog house and run it up through there.

That would work. Easy too.

I'm not sure why you think an extension cord would make someone think there is something of value. For all they know, you're running a simple heater or battery charger, or they'll likely look through the window and see not much of anything. As to a broken window, that would be covered under vandalism or theft in your insurance policy. In my policies those are always covered 100% and no deductible. Maybe you're over-thinking this?

I mean, you say that like people these days wouldn't smash your window to steel a simple heater or battery charger. Based on the video doorbell alerts my neighbors post, people will break in for 50 cents in loose change. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to cut the extension cord for ten feet of 14 guage copper wire.

I have liability only on my van. I guess I could make a homeowners claim but somehow I suspect that wouldn't be worth it.

Though I didn't mention it, the bigger concern is just that running the cord through a window makes it even less air tight which means I am now dehumidifying outside air too.

Whatever, I ended up just running an extension cord through one of the side windows. I don't love it but oh well.

Another option is to install one of these. That way you can keep the van locked and the windows shut tight.

I've had moisture issues before and just used a large fan on dry days to blow fresh air into the vehicle to dry it out. You could always add a shoreline port for an RV to the side. Normally you would put it on the left rear of the vehicle but if the passenger side is usually hidden, you could put it there. I know about people wandering around looking to see what isn't nailed down. I forgot to lock my truck one time when I had the trailer attached and came out to find the door ajar. They had rooted through the center console I made and [ulled the ash tray out looking for change.

The shoreline port can be closed when not in use and opened to run a cord through.
