It runs...well...significantly better than before. I also did both exhaust manifold gaskets and both o2 sensors... Something that was screwy...I got to 12lbs of torque on the intake bolts before the bolts bottomed out. Probably from age/corrosion???? Not sure but I had to retourque all the bolts down till they basically bottomed out and the --- yea -- leaks stopped...it is a pretty crappy feeling to have to pull crap off again lol. Another nuance, it took the lifters 20-30 second to really pump up. I did the installation procedures to the best I knew, and they still needed to pump up. That was another almost crappy feeling...but ended up being - good - it works...
The 180 thermostat is what I should have been running - I think - for here in South Florida...it was still hot, but not nuclear hot LOL,,,I think I like that option..,time will tell...
took it out for a short drive today...it runs a lot better than before...seat of the pant feel is I have 20+ more HP than with the old lifters...the o2 sensors probably helped too...
Wow it runs good
Let's hope it holds LOL time to clean it up....should be fully operational tomorrow
edit
Also the 180 thermostat -- I should have done that a long time ago...the heat coming off feels right now...not nuclear hair dryer hot...
No check englne light...but I have only run it for about a total of an hour
Sooooooooooooo - I fogot to tighten outlet hose on the front of the mainfold. A lot came out...and I think it killed my alternator....
The bearing inside sounds terrible! I am pretty sure it is the atl..i used a carboard tube and the sound was coming from inside the radiator. I also sprayed carb cleaner all around the intake and the motor didnt miss a beat...it is running really good. Just this alt - man it would sound great with a nice quiet one...
That situation would kill the bearing, correct?
Thanks guys - it isnt over yet - but the hard part it
Loosen the belt, spin the alt by hand.... if it doesn't turn smooth, with very little resistance, time for a new one.
Coolant is also a lubricant.... the alt should be able to tolerate getting wet, to a point..... if it's the orginal alt for the van though, it IS 22 years old......
