Hey all I had my girl move the throttle bottle lever while I was underneath at the lever on the trans. They seem to move quite in sync but unless I have eyes on both I'm not sure how to know if the adjustment end is moving before. The cable seems tight though. I had her move it to full throttle and there was no slack and the lever on the transmission end was maxed out.
Not really sure what else to look for. When the throttle is fully engaged so is the lever here on the transmission end of the TV cable

I tried that method of turning OD off, getting up to 45, stomping it and seeing if it downshift to 2. It does not. It grunts until its up to speed. It will downshift between 30 mph (which is just about when it's shifted from 2nd to 3rd and up to about 35mph. Above that though it basically wont downshift.
Another couple things I noticed is that I do feel something happening in 3rd that might be the lockup. It feels like a subtle shift but rpm's don't seem to change.
Another thing is I'm noticing sometimes under power when there's a downshift I seem to get a little squeak from somewhere in the engine bay?
At about 45 mph if the van is in the OD gear and I stomp it, it does seem to downshift. When I start trying that around 55-60 and up, it does not. Basically I need that downshift to happen at higher speed. if it hit a hill on the highway and the speedlimit is 65 I'm basically screwed until the van slows way down below the speedlimit so it can downshift and get me back up to speed.
A final question about the tv adjustment. I notice that the notches for the little clip are on a cable housing that has a spring that fits into a little cylinder. When I'm adjusting, am I moving this housing? I can push it in against the force of the spring and lock it in there but it seems to move independent of the cable so I'm not sure I fully understand how this would affect the TV cable.

That is indeed how it is adjusted. Moving the housing has the affect of shortening/lengthening the cable, depending on which way you move it.
If adjusting the cable doesn't seem to make any difference, I think the next step would be to drop the trans pan, and have a look at what is going on inside there......
