Electric Fan
I just got the new Ram. This is the first Dodge that I have owned. I hope the transmission holds up better than what I have heard about them. Anyway, I was thinking about switching to electric dual fans. Has anyone done this and how much of a change did it make? I have seen estimates of around 40 HP. I find that a little hard to believe but I wanted to get some other opinions.

I wouldnt say 40...but of course you will see gains. I personaly dont know of any one with electric fans...but RM Indy here did remove his stock fan completly. Maybe we can get his attention ad he can let us know what he noticed!!

Fans do very little for performance except give u a bit faster throttle response. Isaw about .1 reduction in ets indicating about 5hp max. Main thing I put them on for was to improve my 60' times which I figure saw a .05-.08 reduction(was happy with short time improvements). The stock viscous fans free wheel and require very little power to drive once the engine is above 2500rpm which only occurs for a short duration when you leave the line.

I went with the underrated Flexilite 210B twin 12" fans with 19amp draw and 2700cfm. The suggested fans are the 260s with twin 14s, 5400cfm and a huge draw of 30amps. The 210s were a weight lossof about 3lbs without the shroud and viscous fan , washer reservoir n pump removed also. Probably break even or gain weight with the bigger 260s.

Fans are more about looks than performance, luv the clean uncluttered look under the hood and it does come in handy being able to stand on mygarage floor between the motor and rad whileworking under the hood

My wiring and mounting are cleaner looking than this original install pic but more or less what it looks like when done.

If you need help on your install I have a fairly detailed install pages in my tech section on my site.

Oh, checked back n it was actually .05 for 60' reduction n .08 1/4 reduction. When it comes to bang for the buck, fans are towards the bottom of my *recommend list*.

Visually though, they are one of my favs for under the hood.

That is very disappointing. I didn't expect 40hp but I did expect more than 5. Underdrive pulleys give more than that and changing to an electric fan should cut down on more parabolic loss than the pulleys should. Has anyone else had any luck with the fans.

Muscle car era motors (bb)maybe would see close to that gain you mention because the fans were clutchless and much heavier.Cant see anyone else getting any better results though. My trucks 200lbs min.lighter than most with weight reduction and about 1500lbs lighter than your Hemi QC.
