Exhaust and Cold Air Intake Questions.
I'm looking at buying a new exhaust and cold air intake system for the truck this week, but have a few questions.
I have found one place on the net down in Houston (See links below for what i'm looking at)..
Cold Air Intake:
"5.7L V8 Air Induction System With 3.5" mandrel bent, chrome finished air tube, 16.1 Rear Wheel Horsepower Gain and up to 4% increase in fuel economy."
Price: 188.95
Link: http://www.rpmoutlet.com/ramhemicai.htm
Exhaust:
"Dodge HEMI RAM Truck All STAINLESS STEEL, Mandrel-Bent, Single Exhaust Catback System With 3" Tubing, Side Exit, 4-inch Polished Stainless Steel Tip."
Price: 398.95
Link: http://www.rpmoutlet.com/ramhemimag.htm
Talked with RPM outlet today, and out the door, I'm $671.51 shipped.
What do you all think? Is there any cheaper places out there to purchase from, etc?

RE: Exhaust and Cold Air Intake Questions.
No intake will give you 16 horsepower on a 5.7 Ram. The most gains I have ever seen from an intake on a Hemi is 5 to 7 HP. You can buy a comparable system from www.360airintakez.com that has a superior cone filter. I have dealt with Joe at 360 and his products are good. He is a sponsor of Dodgeforum, so buying from him helps this website. The filters that he uses are called S&B filters and they are built far better than a K&N. I bought an airhat and S&B filter from 360Air and use it on my Ram.
I also built an intake for my Dakota (no longer in use) that used a K&N filter. When comparing both filters, I notice that the S&B has more filter pleats to increase filtration. The S&B has a better sealing area as well as a better design.
Here is a pic of the 360 Hemi intake with the S&B filter:
Just my opinion, I hope it helps

I was checking them out earlier just after I posted this. Still in the middle of debating on what to do, etc. Want to try an order some stuff by the time I return from Utah next week.

Two comments:
1. Some folks have been having problems with the heat shield integrity on the 360 intakes. I'm not saying it's a bad product, just saw some complaints on another forum.
2. 16hp is possible with a 3.5" CAI, but that value would not be at the peak horsepower rpm, but at a lower rpm. 3.5" intakes are more effective at lower rpms, where as 4" models help more at the higher rpms. I went with 3.5" since I figure that is more usable power for my needs.

I was one who had fitment issues. Let me say that the guys tried to help me but in the end, I just wasn't confident of the fit on my 5.9. I listed my issues and 360 said they would address each concern

I too was debating what kind of intake to get......but decided to stick to what i know and thats K&N.
Honestly, all these intakes are neck and neck. Dont get suckered in buying expensive brands bc most intakes dont boost drastic HP gains.
As far as exhaust i have no idea on truck parts. I know brands for cars but i dont think they make them for trucks.

Wise decision. The gains by a CAI are usually overstated, sad to say...just where do you get "cold air" in in engine bay without running clothes dryer tubing up to the air filter after taking out a fog light and putting screen material over the opening?
