Of course the 6.1 Rods and Exhaust springs are a good match and requirement as well!

Dan, What do you think the key is that makes your cam compatible with the 03? LSA, lift, duration?
My observation is 114 LSA works the best for 03's. So how much more lift and duration do you think would be tolerable? I'm thinking SC to adjust the rev limiter and SMT6 to tune the cam with. I want to turn the engine up to 6400 rpm. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hey all,

Hey Greg -
I have not driven it much since i am still working on my exhaust but i am running one revision tune (7k rev limit) and its a rocket from 5k all the way to 6700-6800rpm. The shift recovery is still lacking since i am running the 2800 stall so once the new stall goes in (3400) it should allow the shift recovery to be 5k which is what this cam needs (actually a stroker is what this really needs)
It's a big cam for the 5.7 and i can see why folks in the past has been disappointed with this cam but they have mostly been QC's. This is def' made for a high rpm light weight truck or lx car. 268 is really the best all round cam in comps xfi line on RC trucks.
The gears are more than enough to handle the low end and is just so fun to drive in the street. Full time 18" rears w/ Nitto DR's are on my Christmas list lol. Gotta look into a track tire size setup to see what i can do in keeping it on the top of 3rd. Might play with the caltracs a bit today though.
The guy who put in the cam for me (03ramit1) will also put in the stall and hopefully that will be soon. I also need to get my floor shifter in.

Hey Daniel,
The 273 is a lot of stick as anyone can see, but with that said there aren't many folks running 4:88's with relative short tires and high stall TC. So my opinion is that the Goose is in a unique position to take advantage of the combo. I can appreciate it may not be the setup for a lot of people but that sucker is going to fly when the trigger is pulled. Well done for stepping up to the challenge. I believe these engines really come to life when spun up into the mid-6k range. I had several SBC's I shifted 6800-7200. You mention your tune adjusting the rev limiter. Can you explain what turner you are using? Pls keep us posted.

Hey Greg, To rev Up you will def need to stay with the SC. I had thought the Spartan on 117 LSA and the special made Timing Chain Gear add-on that KGBig was sellin would have worked great in your Truck but Dunno at what rev that baby drops off at. The 268 is awesome but will prob not Idle IMO and would need some custom Tuning (Diablo Probs again??).

Recommend you should engage Stu in a discussion and tell em what you require and I'm sure he can conjuire up a Cam and LSA that would work good in Ol Red and pull hard!!

I don't Miss the Bottum end of my 6.1 Cam but oh boy did she like tose 6300 shifts! Haven't manually shifted the Crazy yet.

I ordered my Ported Throttle Body and AEM Brute Force CAI. After that is Gear Time followed by winter and DSP purchase as I will need time to purchase the equipement required to record the data needed for that custom tuning via email (spring-Time).

BTW. Info: End Nov time and will PM you for further discussion on the DSP affair!!.

Greg. copy of Cam spec sheet I got. Not sure what the RPM Max range is. Did a few 100 Mph Pulls in normal "D" with 5800 (approx) shift and it pulled hard. I will try 6K next time and shift manually as the RPM limiter is still set at 6400 from when the 6.1 was in.

Danny,
I'm back on line now. We had a bit of tyhpoon come through and knocked everything out. I thought you had the cam ground on 114 centers? Are you idling ok with that cam. The spec sheet looks pretty aggressive to me.

Idle no probs - 600 on the Button and never stalled once.

See Lobe Separation at 114 as per the sheet. Normally the Crazy is at 113 but for the 03 STU recommends the 114 as it is proven to work well when using the SC programmer.

Aggressive?? Imagine that Spartan Grind on a 117, I was talkin to you about, but then again it was put in an 04 (KG's).

Danny, when I said aggressive I was talking about what folks are running in the 03 and not having tuning issues. As for the newer trucks, I guess they run whatever they want. But still the main trick is that the truck has to be setup so the mods compliment one another. I believe you are going to have great success with your setup.
