Hello. I have a 2005 1500 SLT and I took it off roading and got water up inside. The night it happend the truck was able to start back up, but would not idle. It stalled a few times but i was able to start it back up. Now it doesnt start at all, just keeps cranking. Since then i replaced the plugs and cleaned all the connection and everything, and still nothing. I took it to the shop and they gave it a compression test and said it had low compression and needs a new engine. Now for some reason i think they are trying to rip me off, i dont believe it needs a new engine.. Should i take it to the dealership?

 

You got water up inside where?
Sounds like a bad sensor or connection somewhere.
Check for spark,check for fuel.
Even if the compression is low it should still start,get a second opinion.

 

If you sucked it up thru the intake , it might have bent rings/even rods...hydrolocking the motor can be a bad thing

 

yea it did. Water was sucked into the intake. I hate the way its designed on this truck, the truck is lifted and all, but the intake is still lower.. and the engine sits lower so it flows right in.. Damn, im looking at $4000 to fix it. Guess ill have to re-enlist

 

I would change your oil and filter and try to restart it,if it does,run some injector cleaner through it,then recheck compression.

 

i agree.. and do an oil flush.. get the valves cleaned up.. if you got water up in there.. and it stuck a valve.. your compression will be way off.. or gone.. AND it wont start.. honestly.. i doubt you need a new engine.. i have had water in mine just the same way.. and all i had to do was clean it up.. do a complete tune up and service.. and when it was done..and i got it startedi ran some restore in the oil.. and also used a can of seafoam in it.. for the seafoam.. make sure the vehicle will start.. and being i put the restore in the oil.. i just halfed the can .. put half in the fuel tank.. and half i sucked up into the intake via vaccuum line.. and it ran like new.. keep in mind.. seafoam will make it blow the whitest smoke you ever saw till it all burns off.. its normal.. and it wont hurt the truck

 

As far as the compression. The mechanic said something he tested it with his finger and it didnt have any pressure...? is that even possible to do a compression test like that? Well put new oil and and i flushed it with about 2 quarts before i put new oil in ( i dunno if thats a proper flush) and then i put some cleaner in it. At the shop the mechanic said he put some oil on the rings to see if it would seal it. but it didnt. He was saying like i fried the rings. But i dont think it needs a new engine either. But he insists it does

 

Not to have any compression is near impossible unless the pistons are not moving or have a hole in them.
Have you tried starting it since the oil change?

 

yes, it cranks and sounds weak. I think they did a compression test on the pistons, they read off all these numbers and they were all under 50

 

Will it start and run and build any oil pressure?
