Hated SRT-4 Owners?
Seriously, from what I've seen of the Ion Redlines I'd be afraid to race 'em for the shear fact that they look like they'd either blow up into a million plastic pieces or rattle themselves apart.
Hey I have a saturn!!! Gotta give em some credit.... rubbermaid body panels...When it comes time to scrap em they just strip em and recycle the material to give you TRASH CANS!!!! Who knew? They are rolling trash cans??? Ok ....now that I got that joke outta the way ....I like my saturn, very comfortable and cheap on gas.
Back to the hate on srt 4 owners instead of the poor saturn owners..... just a side note... i got hated on a a showing of cars but when i went to the track i got nothing but love... strange
The reason you get loved on at the track is because everyone knows its a Mopar and that the SRT-4's are fast.
Here's my complaint.....the SRT-4 is nothing but a tricked out engine dropped into a superlight 4 dr sedan. Let's be honest here....the main reason you are so fast is you weigh next to nothing.
Now, before you think I'm knockin the SRT-4, I'm not. They are a great concept and I love the ability of Dodge to squeeze that kind of performance out of a small engine like that. The real problem lies in the fact that its a Neon. The main reason you are so dominant against alot of other cars is flat out....you are way lighter then about 80% of the cars you race. I mean, the power to weight ratio to some degree is so ahead of the other cars its already an unfair advantage. This I think is what leads to alot of people hating on your cars.
For example, a stock Neon weighs 3000lbs...it's actually like 2994 or just under 3k, but for arguments sake we'll call it that. Now, throw in an average weight driver and it's a whopping 3200lbs at best.
Now, the next closest cars in weight and speed is almost 400-800lbs heavier.... with same said driver. To compensate for that they would have to either shed weight or add a whole heckuva lot of power.....and its just not there.....not to mention your car is turbo'd where as most factory cars arent...this just shows how stupid some companies are about putting out performance cars....and even the few that are supercharged....are still halfa$$ed in the way it was done.....most companies just bolt up equipment whereas Dodge actually went out and built this engine from the bottom up to be a powerhouse.....
Bottom line is Dodge put out a true performer....and alot of other companies arent ponying up the real performers back....
The only problem is they put it in a ricey looking car and it's a Neon......it's no different to a lot of car "wannabe diehards" then people suping up a Honda Civic..... which is of course stupid but hey...that's the way alot of them think... kinda like dropping a v8 into a Fiero or Pinto.....you'd think what's the point thats a waste until they killed you at the light...

I agree, before i bought one i thought... man its a neon, and ur car is supposed to have some chick appeal. Im 22 so I wanted a good looking car too, but ur larger percentage of women just see a neon.... it hurts but when i drove it I was hooked, and now i defend it to everyone, even my damn girlfriend who has a 2004 neon. She says its just a neon and we go back and forth but in the end i take it to the track and all my arguing with her ends there. Either way im 100 percent satisfied with my purchase and they only hate because its a neon, because if dodge had given it a slightly different look further away from the neon style we wouldnt get half as much hate as we do now.
After all that, I think you guys have finally gotten down to what it's all about; You either love it cause it's a Neon or you hate it cause it's a Neon.
I choose to love it because its a Neon. People who hate it aren't necessarily wrong but I think they are looking at it in the wrong light. The way I see it is the way I believe the factory intended it to be. It's the best bang for the buck you can buy. It's not a new age Barracuda or Mustang. It's not supposed to be. If anything, it is more like the Road Runner. That is what the Road Runner was (cheap speed) and it became an ICON that made the old Chrycorp what it has become famous for. I'm sure a lot of Non- Mopar types hated on the Road Runner too because it was just a light, simple no frills Satellite with a powerful engine. Yes, back in it's day, the 68 Road Runner was quite light, big as they were. They weren't racy looking, they were based on the most plain jane car in the line up. They were not nice cars. All they had was the monster engine. That was the formula for success. The Neon SRT-4 is the modern version of the Road Runner. It just happens to look a little ricey because of the modern day market it competes in, which is ok with me. I'm glad that it is competativeley styled and that it kills in it's segment. That just tells me that the factory is in tune with what is going on. That is exactly what the Road Runner did and it was hated upon by GTO, 442 and Mustang Buyers that believed you should spend a lot more money and have a special looking car to go fast. Chrysler proved them wrong and they hated it. I Loved the Road Runner and I love the Neon SRT-4.
