Well said. The final result is the ONLY thing that matters......[sm=smiley20.gif][sm=smiley16.gif][sm=smiley20.gif]
I like BarneyDriver...
Maybe it's cause I drive one of those silly little Neon's... hehe...
It's funny how my Mustang buddies are all scared of my little Neon... (I can already feel someone telling me how "slow" and "crappy" THEY think the Mustang is... haha)

I find it amazing that the more I drive the SRT-4, the less I see people wanting to run against it....everybody kinda "melts away"........[sm=smiley16.gif]
Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and pretty new to cars so go easy on me haha. I'm buying a new car soon, well, my first car. I am considering an SRT-4 because the stock power of it is just ridiculous for the price! =). But a few things have me worried. I live in Toronto canada, we have long winters, how is the handling on the SRT-4? Everyone keeps telling me it's really bad, but that may just be biased people who won't believe an American car is really good. I have an open mind and am seriously considering the SRT-4 but I'd like some advice on it. I really need to know if it's the right car for me =). The only other models I'm looking at are the Subaru WRX (or the STi if I can afford it...), I'd say the Lancer EVO8 but, they aren't available in canada, maybe they will be in 2005 =). So really it's the SRT-4 or a subaru WRX (Maybe an STi). The WRX is a lot slower than the SRT-4, that I know. But with some mods I'm sure it could be boosted quite easily =). Any advice would be welcome!
Other than that I hvae a few things to say, since I was reading through this topic hehe. The RX-8 I heard someone mention. Everyone thought it would be a great car because it's the next generation of the RX series, which was before, the RX-7. Well, the RX-8 is a joke compared to the RX-7. The RX-8 is heavier, it has less power, an uglier body and they changed many other things that made the RX-7 a very formidable street racer (Can I talk about racing?? I don't know so I'll keep it minimal haha.) The RX-7 was so light and had such great power that I think it did 0-60 in about 5 seconds. Pretty simple to modify too. It also oversteered like crazy but it had exceptional balance and became a model for all drifters. The RX-8 is none of these things, and I'm sure, everytime, hands down, and SRT-4 would leave treadmarks all over that stupid candy-car RX-8. The RX-8 is like..just..gimmicky..haha.
As for the Nissan 350z, is this a nissan or an audi btw? lol. Because I can't tell! It bores me, it's uninteresting, the power is hardly impressive for the price. It also looks like a lame car to mod..I view the 350z as a car that wannabe street racers would buy, without knowing that its future potential probably sucks, unlike another nissan model such as the Skyline which I think they should have had in the line-up for north america instead of the stupid 350z. (I bet the SRT-4 would easily beat a 350z, even though the 350z may have something up on handling against the srt-4 but I'm not really sure.)
Personally, I'm dissapointed in the japanese car line-up recently. There isn't much to go for, and it's always nice to have a range of choices when it comes to selecting a turbo car that you want to keep for a long time and work on slowly. There's the Acura RSX-S and it's NOT turbo
. There's the Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, NOT turbo
. There's no turbo honda model. The Toyota celica isn't even worth mentioning. And Nissan doesn't offer the Skyline in NA. All that's left is the Subaru WRX/STi and a Lancer Evo if you're lucky enough to live in the US where they are offered hehe. The only other car I like, which isn't turbo, is the honda S2000. I think it's a beautiful car, the design is great, of course it's a different class than the SRT-4, I mean, it's kinda like a roadster, the SRT-4 is rally like (personally I really like the rally look, but the s2000 is still cool if you have the $$$ to play with one!)
The SRT-4 looks great but I'm still trying to make sure that it's the right car for me. Personally, the only reason I'm considering an STi is because I can't get a Lancer Evo, and it's the next best thing. I really think the evo is a better car than the Sti. I think it has a better design, it's also lighter and I remember hearing that the top end is higher than the STi. An Evo would be a more interesting competitor for an SRT-4. Either way, stock, I think, the STi and Evo would beat an SRT-4. This isn't saying anything bad about the SRT-4, let's remember, it's about 17,000$ less than an STi or Evo. (I think the evo is even a bit cheaper than the STi, I may be mistaken though.) So stock for $$$ value, the SRT-4 is jaw dropping. In terms of top end, I don't know which of the three, evo, sti, SRT-4, is the highest, so I'm not sure who'd win in an all out straightaway race. But the Sti and Evo are both AWD so off the light, their accell is great, and the SRT-4 is FWD right? So it would probably fall behind, but not by far at all. It can easily keep up, and that alone, is impressive. With minimal mods, it can probably beat an STi/Evo on the highway. But once again, I fear the handling is an issue, but I'm not an SRT-4 expert, so I'd love to ask the advice of all of you guys here on this forum =).

EDIT - Bah, posted when I thought I'd read the whole thread...turns out I didn't...
I do gotta say though that some of you look like you're way into fanboy territory. Yeah, it is cool that the SRT can beat cars that are more expensive than it, but you also really should take into account that performance isn't the only thing that jacks up a price. You also gotta think about the social status crap and "luxury" ammenities of certain cars.
I also have to agree with the earlier definition of rice being just the style. I'd call a japanese car an import if it looked stock and didn't have all those dumbass rice characteristics.

you type a lot!
to answer one of your questions, I had a Dodge Dealer salesman tell me (before I even bought my SRT) that the car handles like crap in the rain and snow (btw, I live in the middle of Michigan, I know what snow is)... I don't even drive my car in the rain right now
so... I have no first hand experience...
I have a moderate income so I planned on just buying a "winter beater" this fall to solve my problems
buy an SRT and save the $9k for a winter car

No snow experience from this part of the country, but I can tell you the SRT-4 handles the corners and curves better than my pickup truck ever did in the rain. You have to feather the throttle though, if you want to get it on in a straight line...[&:]
Subaru's are for lesbiean!!! If you are a car guy, buy a dodge. Or something else manly. It is well known that suburau and nissan sentras are very, very popular among the lesbian population. Know a few and they all drove subuarus. I even knew one girl from wyoming who had a rainbow flag on her subaru and said she wasn't a lesbian. I called her out and guess what, last year I heard she had a girlfriend. SUBARU=LESBIAN.
Hey dude, you need to pay attention to who you are responding to....in your posting it reads "in reply to dustyloins" yet I've never posted anything about whatever the heck it is you are talking about....thanks in advance....
So dusty, your a subaru driving lesbian!!?? very interesting, but the my reply was mistakenly made by clicking reply at the end of the page, I do appologize for that. It is just an observation though, Subaru's are liked by the lesbian crowd, and that is one of the reasons I did not purchase one. I looked but just couldn't bring myself to buy one. It is just social commintary, and there is nothing offensive about it. Just like saying rough looking guys with beards and leather, that break the law a lot, ride harley, or choppers. Some things just have "that image" So I might as well inform others about cars that have "that image" attached to them. Sorry to rain on your day dusty. I know your a pretty cool guy from your online posts. One of the reasons I like this forum IS the lack of punks with attitudes. PEACE
