Hi, i'm a bit of a newb to cars, as you can tell. I just recently started getting into them, and I'm learning all that I can about them, but what would the be VERY first thing that you would get on a stock SRT-4? The very first mod. Thanks.

Welcome to DF!

The very first mod I would get would be an oil catch can. It is an air filter that separates liquids from gases, in this case it's motor oil from crank case gases in the PCV line. When in a boost situation oil gets past the PCV valve and will get into the intake manifold and also into the cylinders possibly fouling the spark plugs. You can get one from Auto Zone for around $13, it's a Campbell Hausfeld MP5138 mini all purpose air filter. Here is a link to a detailed install of one: http://www.dodge-srt4.com/howto/catchcan.html

Now if your strictly talking about performance mods, then my first mod would be a K & N Typhoon CAI. You can get one through Modern Performance for $199.99 shipped. It will increase you power as well as sound frickin' GREAT!!!![sm=smiley20.gif][sm=smiley2.gif]

Yeah, the Oil Catch Can won't make your SRT-4 any faster, but it will help keep the engine cleaner and help prevent it from running any slower!![&:] Your first mod really depends on your budget....a K&N air filter will set you back $42, modding the intake and exhaust are the best ways to get more bang for your buck...

Very good stuff!

I hadn't thought about that - but - I noticed when I removed the stock airbox there was a lot of oil in there. also the car has what feels like a slight misfire at idle. don't know if a catch can would help this type of situation(would it?) but I am sure it's real good preventative.

thanks for the idea.

All the parts (hose, clamps, fittings, etc) shouldn't run you more than about $21 or so. You'll be amazed at the oil that is getting past the PCV valve.....[:@]

Thanks for the help, on that site you posted showing how to install the catch can, the guy mounted it into his AC line, is that the best place to mount it?

Most of us that did the $20 OCC mounted it there with zip ties. I haven't heard of any problems with the location....[&:]
