right..has ot be 0-60mph because with a 12.70 run, my 60ft time is about 1.697-1.703, and i dont know what my 0-60 mph is...

 

wow talk about some mustang hating going on here!

i'm a little bias, since i come from a mustang background, and about 98% of the car group i run with are mustangs. i know what a mustang can do, and exactly how much it costs to get there. i can tell you right now, that all a mustang needs to run 12's all day long is a off-road x pipe and a vortech. now if you want to do it right there are other things that should be done, but not everyone wants to spend the money.

our mustang is a 1990 lx notch twin turbo, running on the original stock 302. once it's finally finished, it should be in the 10's. it's apart right now for a roll cage, fender stretch, new interior (it was that nasty porno red color) and new paint. no major engine work here. in fact the only things that have changed in the engine are the roller rockers because two went bad, and a new cam shaft. there are other mods that have been done of course (suspension, fuel, etc.), but i'm not really in the mood to start going into all that.

as much as people seem to want to hate on mustangs, respect them for what they are. there's a hell of a lot more potential in a mustang than many other cars out there. do you have any idea how easy it is to do an engine swap in a fox body? we do them in a day. the new body's are much harder to work on, which is why everyone tends to stick to foxes, plus there's just more that can be done with them.

people also need to remember that not everyone is looking to run 10's in their cars. some people are happy with minor bolt ons and running low 14's. that's fast enough for them. i see these commercials on tv for these so-called super fast cars, and they run 15's and 16's in the 1/4. it's all relative to what you know and what you want. it would scare the crap out of a lot of people just to run a 12 second 1/4 mile, forget anything faster. so while a 12.8 might not impress you, it will impress other people.

That is exactly why most everyone I know cannot stand the Mustangs....or at least the Mustang owners. I know of quite a few personally and they are pretty much the same way.

 

that's too bad RR... all the guys I know with Mustangs are pretty nice guys, and realize their cars are nice, but not the cream of the crop... even my buddy with his cobra (which is rarer *is that a word* than my SRT and faster) respects my car... of course, they are my buds, so...

for me personally, all the Mustang guys I have run into have been pretty respectful and understand their cars are quick, but not land rockets... in all honesty, not to shift the topic, it's the GM Camaro/Firebird guys that seem to think their sh!* doesn't stink when it comes to cars, at least around where I live...

Yep, I've seen the same attitude in the Camaro/Firebird crowd as well. I love it when I see these Camaro diehards that still cannot spell, they spell it Camero.[sm=icon_rofl.gif]

 

the few guys who i will talk to with V8 stangs are complete morons...ive heard this quote more times then i can count..."i dont Need to do anything to it..its a mustang". the area in which i live is soemwhat caught in the 80s mentallity.."imports (anything not with a v8) are junk, mustangs and camaros/firebirds are they only car a Real man would drive. so just about everyone drives them, msot of which are "pimped out" 6 cylinders...

and psichick...your 10 second stang is an outlier...there is one TT stang at my local track....drives it in drives it outm runs low 11s...its actually kind of interesting...the only turbo stang ive ever seen...but like i said..the majoority have the follow mods:
B&M short throw
borla catback
K&N filtercharger
cobra knock off rims
tinted windows
12s...
"Dr's"
decal, either steeda or saleen..

yet theyre sure its thje fastest, coolest car ever built...

 

Major internal engine work????????? They only time you see the inside of the engine is when the intake and heads are off. What are you talking about.[sm=dontgetit.gif] This is all stuff most people can do in their driveway Pat.

I'm not saying they're better, but that there's a lot of stuff for them and that they can be made to run. I wish I had half the options they have for my newer model vehicles.

 

heads are NOT a simple bolt on item. theyre expensive, and 99% of the american public wouldnt know how to change them. i do not live in the south, so no, people around here dont have their cars in the driveway with the heads pulled, much in the same way we dont celebrate any of the 3 hank williams' birthdays...

im sure that if you go to a mustang shootout or fast fords event, yes, there will be alot with work done,....but ive yet to see an NA stang run better than low 12s...im not saying one doesnt exist...but then again, ive seen an NA honda run low 11s...if i put TT or a blower on the mirada and it only ran 11s, like the stangs at PRP, id be pissed, considering that if i had some compression and the right gears, i could easily be near 11s already...

little johnny or susie turns 16 and since he/she got a C+ in 10th grade chemisty, mommy and daddy will buy him/her a shiny new GT...to ghetto up, and put some decal on the back that says "yes its fast, and no, you cant drive it."...and they come to the track, and run their 14s, and get crushed by s2000s and srt4...just like 95% of the other stangs...ive seen a higher percentage of slant 6 cars run 12s than i have mustangs..

since about 1978, the cars are junk built for poser gearheads.
