3.6 Pentastar misfiring
I'm new to the forum, but wanted to address an issue that I'm having with my 2011 Durango with the new 3.6 Pentastar engine. It started misfiring every once in awhile a couple of weeks ago. I took it to the dealership and they said that the number 4 hole is showing a misfire on the computer. After talking to Chrysler's finest, they wanted to replace the head on that side. I take it in tomorrow to have them run a scan on it again and most likely have the head replaced. Has anybody else had problems similar to this or heard of anyone having similar issues? What is the correlation between a cylinder misfiring and replacement of the head? One last question.....is it common practice to replace just one head or are they usually both replaced? Thanks for any insight!

a little more info for ya
hey, i am actually a dodge tech, and i am in the process of putting a head on a 3.6 right now (that i have waited a month on because of back-order). it has a misfire at idle, and when tested, cyl #2 only had 75 psi compression. when checked part numbers, found that the left head has major issues, but normally with cylinder 2. the tech tip is just to replace the head. the right head does not have this issue. i dont know exactly what is wrong with the head, but i suspect the vavle guides.

Clatter!
So our 2011 GC has run great, 23,500 miles and then the engine clatter started. It only clatters a very short amount of time at start up and of course does so only intermittently. In addition, it seems to clatter more often and longer if the van has been sitting at an incline! Dealership will be taking it next week to investigate, does this sound like the head problem?
Everything else about the van has been great, no problem with mileage-up to 30 on flat highway, averaged 26 on a 3000 mile trip loaded up and a Thule box on top.

It's a bit fuzzy, but at some point (July?) chrysler started building the 3.6 with the revised heads. I've read anecdotally that it may be limited to heads that had been manufactured in Mexico....but no hard evidence of that
