Wicked 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A Now in Lego Form
Classic Challenger T/A comes in Plum Crazy and it is joined by a Dodge themed dragster.
The Lego Speed Champions line has been introducing popular cars in block form for several years now, including a kit that featured the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon alongside a 1970 Charger R/T. On June 1, another pair of Dodge performance machines will race into the Speed Champions, including a Dodge 329-branded Top Fuel Dragster and a 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A. Of course, the each car comes with a driver, with the dragster driver bearing a striking resemblance to NHRA Top Fuel driver Leah Pruett.
Lego 8-Wide Platform
While this is exciting news for Dodge enthusiasts who enjoy building Lego kits, it is also an important kit for the Lego brand. The Challenger T/A is the first-ever in the Speed Champions series to come in all purple, but it also the first American muscle car to be built on Lego’s new 8-wide scale.
“Owning, or aspiring to own, a Dodge muscle car is as much about the lifestyle of joining the Brotherhood of Muscle as it is about the vehicle purchase,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge Brand Chief Executive Officer – Stellantis. “As a result, our brand enthusiasts are passionate about all things Dodge, including the latest cool collectibles. So, following the success of the Dodge 2018 LEGO Speed Champion building set, fans will now be able to build and show off not only the first ever 8-inch-wide (8W) muscle car, but also the first ever Plum Crazy 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A, along with an incredibly detailed 13½-long Top Fuel Dragster.”
Top Fuel and Challenger Set
The official name of this package is the Mopar Dodge//SRT Top Fuel Dragster and 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A and it is Lego item number 76904. Between the two vehicles and the two minifigures, this kit is comprised of 627 blocks and when it goes on sale on June 1, it will have an MSRP of $49.99. That is how much it costs to buy it directly from the Lego website, but if you find it at a retailer such as Walmart, you can often save a few dollars.
As mentioned above, the Challenger T/A is built from purple Lego blocks, but Dodge fans will recognize it as being pretty close to Plum Crazy. It has the familiar low-profile hood scoop and the angular rear spoiler, with T/A badges and 340 Six Pac badges on the fenders and Dodge Challenger T/A badging on the rear. Up front, it has the quad headlights of the 1970 model year and true to form, the taillights span nearly the entire rear end. When assembled, the Challenger T/A is 2 inches high, 5 inches long and 2.5 inches wide, with a pair of seats inside to hold two minifigures.
As for the Top Fuel Dragster, it is the modern cockpit style with a small-scale version of the supercharged race Hemi nestled between the cockpit and the huge rear wing. The car comes with decals to make it look a great deal like Leah Pruett’s race car, so it is likely not a coincidence that the minifigure looks a great deal like her.
If you are a Dodge enthusiast or a Lego builder who wants to get this set right away, you can order it from the Lego website on June 1, 2021, with retailers around the country receiving them shortly after that date.
