2022 Ram 1500 TRX Ignition Edition

Ram 1500 TRX in Ignition Orange is only available in a special package, limited to just 875 units.

One of the few complaints from those folks buying a Ram 1500 TRX is the lack of exciting colors. It is pretty much red, blue and a bunch of greyscale options. However, there have long been rumors that Ignition Orange would join the color palate and at the 2021 Texas State Fair, the TRX in bright orange was introduced. That is the good news.

The bad news is that Ignition Orange is only available on the Ram TRX as part of the limited Ignition Edition, which only comes loaded (hence a big price tag) and production will be limited to just 875 units. That all-but-guarantees that buyers will face a dealer markup to get one of these gorgeous orange supercharged Ram trucks.

“Buyers demand a good-looking truck with easy-to-use features. They tell us their Ram trucks are an extension of their personality, and they want to stand out from the crowd,” said Mike Koval Jr., Ram Brand Chief Executive Officer – Stellantis. “Ram customers demand even more and our new models deliver that with a selection of exterior and interior appointments and content for even greater personalization.”

Today, we bring you a first look at the key details of the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX Ignition Edition.

2022 Ram 1500 TRX Ignition Edition

The 2022 Ram 1500 TRX Ignition Edition includes a long list of standard premium features, beginning with the Level 2 Equipment Group. That popular equipment group essentially adds every possible option, so rather than listing them all, here are some of the key components of that package:

Next, the Ignition Edition comes with 18-inch black wheels with a machined face, panoramic sunroof, spray-in bedliner and bed step on the outside. Inside, the limited edition package includes Copperhead Orange stitching, an embroidered TRX logo on the upper seat backs, copper carbon fiber accents, orange center console badge, the Head-up Display system, a driver’s screen that features the TRX logo in Ignition Orange and the package-specific badge on the center console armrest cover.

Of course, the most important aspect of the Ram TRX is the supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi with 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, which is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and a heavy duty four-wheel-drive system that puts the power to the ground, be it dirt or pavement.

Price and Availability

The 2022 Ram 1500 TRX Ignition Edition will officially go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2021, but if you are serious about getting one, you will want to start talking to your local dealership right away. Only 875 examples of this package will be made and with the striking exterior paint, we expect that it will be a popular option.

The 2022 Ram 1500 TRX Ignition Edition has an MSRP of $91,585 plus $1,695 destination, leading to an out-the-door price of $93,280. Unfortunately, with only 875 units slated for production, we can bet that many dealers will slap a markup of anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000 when these trucks hit showroom floors.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
