Hey guys I'm going to buy a set HS roller rockers and was wondering what kit to get there are 3 the 3/16 stud the 3/8 sttud and the pedistal mount one what are the advantages and disadvantages of these? I got a 94 318 5 speed
If you're running a magnum engine with stock heads you want the pedestal mount they're designed to bolt right up to the stock heads. They're literally plug n play. Make sure you soak them in engine break in oil for 24 hours before installing. If you get 1.6 ratio it'll be the same as stock, but if you get 1.7 ratio it'll allow your valves to open a bit more for a bit longer and give you a noticeable gain in power

You'll want 1.6 of you want to do a cam swap at anytime, or 1.7 if you have 0 plans for a cam.
And no, you dont need to soak them in anything for any amount of time before installing. That's a wife's tell to waste money.
oh, disadvantages, nothing. Advantages, lower rotating mass , smoother top for the rocker, and more power. The 1.7 are advertised as 20hp on a stock 5.9.

No offense intended but not soaking them is stupid. It's just like breaking in a flat tappet cam. You start your engine with those rockers being dry you're looking at rapid movement with little to no lubrication. You chance rapid overheating, rollers seizing plus uneven wear. Even the instructions say to soak them. Would you put together an engine without assembly lube? Would you start that same engine without priming the oil pump or start it with no oil at all?
soak them in break in oil or straight zddp additive. At least overnight to make sure oil has saturated every bit of the rockers.
Either way it's better to be safe than sorry. Even if you get a 2 dollar qt of oil from the dollar store to soak them in it's better than risking catastrophic failure. That's just my opinion

Whatever floats the boat. But I promise, its a waste of money..
naturally the pic won't load. Guess it did. Twice maybe even. Theyve been in for at least 2 oil changes, and there's nothing in the oil and everything is smooth as can be. Great value, especially when you get them straight from Harland Sharp.
