'94 Dakota body swap
I am visiting the engine machine shop and the driveline shop tomorrow. Both are about 50 miles away. I possibly found a transmission shop a bit closer, but will hit them up on the way home. My plan is to get the rear 4 link done before I pull the engine and trans out, so I can measure for the custom driveshaft.
After picking up the slip yoke for my 4L60E trans, I stopped by the engine machine shop. That visit just changed the direction on this build. He had a customer back out of an engine deal while he was crating it for shipment. Talk about a last minute cancellation! Anyway, he has been sitting on it for sometime now, and finally got tired of looking at it. Then I walked into his shop. He is giving me a smoking deal on stroked LS3, 416 ci displacement. We are going to couple it to a 6L80E, 6 speed automatic from GM Performance. So I will be selling my used LM7 and 4L60E core. Funny how life seems to throw curve ***** at you! Reset the whole project, and start with a brand new motor and trans, with a lot more power than I was originally shooting for. Yes, this direction is costing me more money, but it will get the truck where I was going to end up eventually. My original plan was to get it working on a budget, and upgrade along the way farther down the road. This direction is a huge improvement!

That should be a FUN combo.
Crap, it would have been. After I left his shop, someone wired him the money last night. I hemmed and hawed too long, shouldn't have waited. I called him this morning as soon as he opened, but too late.
Back to the original plan.
All of the discussions with the shop owner, and the potential buy of his LS3 build really got me going. I guess you can't take it with you. Tomorrow we are ordering a GM Performance LS3 "Connect & Cruise" drivetrain. Brand new 6.2L - same engine as the Camaro SS but with a hotter cam. 6L80E 6 spd transmission, and all the stand alone wiring/computer to run both. Direct from GM. 2 year warranty. Rated at 525 hp, 478 ft lb torque, 10.7:1 comp. Since it is new, the shop will break in the motor for me on their engine dyno. When I pick it up it will be ready to go with proven dyno results. The LM7 is already listed for sale. Merry Christmas to me!
