A few days ago the wipers on my 95 stopped working. Every time I turn them on, it blows fuse# 10. I pulled the connector off the motor and the voltages for the four wires was correct for intermittent, HI and LOW. I replaced the motor. Same problem. I replaced the multifunction switch. Same problem. I grounded the old motor and plugged in the connector. The wipers only worked only on HI, no fuse blown. I checked the continuity and resistance on the DB park switch wire, set my multimeter to 200, and got 25. I checked all four wires from the motor connector to the 45 pin firewall connector and the wires look fine. Next, I guess I’ll check the wires from the firewall to the multifunction switch. I’m stumped as to why the motor works when it is not mounted, but blows the fuse when it is mounted. I also ran a better ground wire from the firewall to the motor.
I hate electrical problems. I have been working on this for a couple days, and have done a lot troubleshooting using the manual and wiring diagrams, and a few hours pondering. Now my brain hurts.
Once again, you may be right. I took the new motor off and it runs fine. I pulled the arm assembly out. It is not frozen but takes some energy to turn the pivots. I ran my battery down. I’ll charge the battery tonight and clean up the arm assembly, replace the grommet if needed and try it tomorrow. If that was the problem, I’ll have to recover a crapload of wiring when I’m finished.

I took the wiper arm assembly out. The bushings are in great shape. The pivots seemed tough to turn by hand. I sprayed the pivots with brake cleaner and soaked them in mineral spirits then sprayed them with WD40. Everything moves freely. The mounted wiper motor works fine. I hooked up the arm assembly to the motor. Motor won’t turn and fuse blows. It must be binding somewhere. I’ll take it out and look at it some more. I may see if I can get an arm assembly at Pick and Pull.
You need to get grease inside the bushings. Ralph always recommended white lithium grease. I got myself a small tube of it and I have it in the spray can for doors etc.
Edit- Oh yea make sure you put it back in correctly. I made the mistake of assuming it would just work and turned out I had it put together wrong and that made it bind.
Finally working. Here is what I did that didn’t solve the problem:
Checked the wiring and voltages, cleaned the connector
Replaced the motor
Took the transmission apart, greased and installed new bushings
Got new transmission assembly from pick and pull
Took apart the pick and pull arm assembly, greased and replaced the bushings
Got another rebuilt motor from NAPA. PN RAY-49406. It looked just like the original but with a bigger motor. The motor moved the transmission and pivots but when I turned the wipers to Hi, they ran slowly. When I turned the wipers to Lo, they ran fast. No intermittent and the wipers wouldn’t park.
I rearranged the connector wires to the motor until I got it to work. Wipers work great now with no blown fuses. I’m thinking the wiper transmission caused enough mechanical resistance that the two OEM motors couldn’t handle it and blew the fuse. Not sure, but don’t care now that the wipers work.
