Default transmission problems.

nice to see a dodge forum here, ive been on the chevy forums for awhile, but i just purchased my first mopar:P. i purchased a 2000 durango for my wife. i picked it up cheap because the 4 wheel drive didnt work and they said the transmission was shot!
so i get the durango home, find the 4x4 linkage disconnected, works fine now, now for the transmission problems! the durango will not shift into second, it will tack up and never shift. but i can let go of the gas pedal and itll shift fine. seems gentle and quite, then i can keep going! what gives? why will it not shift unless i let off the gas? no check engine lights yet, however ive only drove it around the neightborhood being i havent titled it yet.
thanks
steven.
5.2l btw. also if i turn key on off on off on it says pdone

Have the trans pan dropped, refilled, new filter and the bands adjusted. That is where to start. If really fancy, have the shop replace the governor pressure solenoid too.

Let us know.

"pdone" Means there is no CEL's in the computer. No service issues.

I agree with Indy!

Welcome to DF
Did you ck the fluid level first? If its full,Then do like indy had said. But also add a seal softner. Because what happens to these transmission, when the seal get hot over time from the fluid the seals start to get hard and cause shifting problems. Ck with you local parts store for the seal softner.

if you adjusted the band and didnt change the filter then

you need to drop the pan to adjust the bands so you might as well change the fluid/filter while its down
