Default 2003 5.9l Overheating quick

I just changed the timing chain and gears, the gaskets for the cover and water pump, a new thermostat, and a new radiator cap. I started it up and drove it about 200 feet and it started to overheat (redline). I touch the hoses and they are hot and it seems like there is alot of pressure. Any advice?

Could be a bad thermostat right out of the box.

I had that problem with a blazer. Messed up thing about it is you check the coolant and its full. try running it and it would over heat.

I would suspect a bad out of the box Thermostat or possible air in the cooling system. Test the Thermostat on a stove to insure it is working correctly and burb the cooling system again to purge all air from the system.

When you refilled the coolant, did you poor it into to reservoir or directly into the cap in the top radiator hose?

Air in the system is not typically a problem with the 5.9, especially toward the end of this generation.
