Default Jack location

Hey all,
I wanted to know where the best place is for the OEM jack. I changed my tire today and well the truck slipped forward and fell off the jack stand and jack! My thoughts are that I did not place the jack or jack stand in a secure place.
So I just want to know where would be the best place to put the jack.
I have a 2002 D 4x4 4.7L.

I've never had an issue with just putting it under the frame.

HOISTING RECOMMENDATIONS
WARNING: THE HOISTING AND JACK LIFTING
POINTS PROVIDED ARE FOR A COMPLETE VEHICLE.
WHEN A CHASSIS OR DRIVETRAIN COMPONENT
IS REMOVED FROM A VEHICLE, THE
CENTER OF GRAVITY IS ALTERED MAKING SOME
HOISTING CONDITIONS UNSTABLE. PROPERLY
SUPPORT OR SECURE VEHICLE TO HOISTING
DEVICE WHEN THESE CONDITIONS EXIST.

FLOOR JACK

CAUTION: Do not attempt to lift a vehicle with a
floor jack positioned under:
² An axle tube.
² Aluminum differential.
² A body side sill.
² A steering linkage component.
² A drive shaft.
² The engine or transmission oil pan.
² The fuel tank.
² A front suspension arm.
When properly positioned, a floor jack can be used
to lift a Durango vehicle (Fig. 3). Support the vehicle
in the raised position with jack stands at the front
and rear ends of the frame rails.

HOIST

A vehicle can be lifted with:
² A single-post, frame-contact hoist.
² A twin-post, chassis hoist.
² A ramp-type, drive-on hoist.

NOTE: When a frame-contact type hoist is used,
verify that the lifting pads are positioned properly
(Fig. 3)

The frame is usually what I go for with the jack. my guess is your jack probably wasn't able to roll forward as you lifted it up which caused it to slip off.

I always put in it 4wd and put the parking brake on in addition to blocking the wheels so that they won't move.

Yeah. I guess I just never wanted to put the extra strain on my 4x4 components.

The strain is pretty much non existent compared to the strain when using the 4wd to move the truck.
