Default Heater hose leaking

2001 SLT 4x4
I have a leak coming from here. This is on the passangr side. Not sure if it is the hose that runs along the fire wall where it attaches to it or if it is leaking from a crack or a seam. I don't know what it does and if it can be fixed/cleaned or has to be replaced? I can't find the part on line (not to say it isn't out there I just can't find it) if I knew what it was called I might have a better shot at finding it. Do you know if I can pull the hose lines off or do I need to remove fluid first?

Thanks

Need to clean things up, the let it sit and idle, and see where it is actually dripping from. Might be one of the hoses, might be the pump itself.

Thank you, funny how you start finding info right after you start a thread.
Can I remove the hoses without draining the coolant?

You can, but, don't be surprised if it gets messy.

Thats the aux pump that ensures adequate heater water flow to the front and rear cores. The plastic can break, or the front and back halves can get loose (have no idea how). You can try first just tightening the four small philips screws on the pump. Sometimes that squeezes the two halves of the plastic pump together more allowing the seal between then to work again. If the plastic is cracked, the pump is not tough to replace, two hoses and one electrical connector.

To find the leak, hook up a cooling system pressure tester. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...ss-4-7l-2.html

Heater hose can be had from any auto parts store for cheap. I bought a six foot roll at advance and redid mine. Here is something to think about. Unless it's leaking right at the firewall spouts, don't pull off the old hose there. Cut it and couple with new hose. (I coupled mine with a heater valve from the junkyard, so I could stop coolant flow altogether in the summer). https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...e-install.html Reason for this is, those heater pipes at firewall are highly malleable aluminum, which will deform and leak if you fool with it too hard. Screw up those pipes and you'll be pulling the dash.

Thanks for this thread. I was having a small leak back there (could see some steam) Once I tightened the screws on the pump a bit, it went away. Sweet!

Chasing down a leak on the '01 looks like the return line from the rear heater at this point....What is the benefit of stopping the coolant flow in the summer?

Thanks,

Steve
