Default car died

car died at 4000 rpm in 4th gear while accelerating. the starter wont turn the crank. the car wont start with the ignition or drift starting it. there wasa slight bump just as it died while the rpms were rising. the starter spins (sounds like a vacuum cleaner or something) but doesnt turn the engine over..... anyone have any ideas?

Will the motor spin at all if you try to push it and pop the clutch? If the starter won't turn the motor there is no way to check compression.

timing belt looks ok. the crank will turn if you drift the car and let it in gear, but the car must not have spark or ud think it would fire. ill have to check it out tomorrow. as for tonight my trip back to campus involved me riding shotgun in a 92 tracker with no exhaust that would only do 45 up the mountain to get here.... lol

the starter bendix isnt engaging into the flywheel because of a fualty solenonid.

Let's get some back round on your neon. Have you done any work in the past few weeks, and possibly not put something back? Also, what codes are you getting? We have to keep in mind our neons are approaching the 10-15yr mark. As I explain as often as possible, buying a new car is not always the best decision. Put that money toward ALL new sensors, a new engine harness, tires, etc, and you have a new car all over again. My neon just stopped starting as well, and some common cause are failed cam sensor, crank position sensor, bad grounds, loose connections, timing belt skipped a tooth; those are most causes and there are more that give no codes. Stir the pot and see what comes up.
