Default timing belt?

Ok so i took my car to NTB to get an oil changed and i also told them that i thought that i had a belt loose because it makes this ridiculous noise when i start it well i'm thinking that its my A/C and powersteering belt but then when they called me and gave me this crazy price saying including the oil change and parts that it would come up toalomst $300so i'm assuming they meant my timing belt too? Well money is kind of thight right now so how do i know that they're not lying to me just beacuse i'm a young girl? how can you tell if there are problems with your timing belt?

naw the timing belt is a completely diffrent belt....to do that u would need to change the water pump too....so that job alone could cost around $300-$400...if you were to take it to a mechanic.....

what exactly did they tell that they were gonna replace/repair for $300???

I can't remember what belts they said i know one of them was the powersteeringbut i can't remember the other one i know that they said one was$39.99 and the other was $24.99. Well before I took my car there i looked online to see how much belts tyupically cost and i looked at autozone and other placesand they're relatively cheap. NTB has very expensive prices I know my friend got a battery there for over $100 then found the same one somewhere else for alot cheaper. I hate going into palces and them trying to rip me off justcuz i'm a young girl. They said the total was goign tobe $286 and I called my lil bro to get his opinion and he told me that was way too much

If the belt is slipping then it would not turn the A/C compressor therefore you wouldn't get any cold air. Heat is a different issue though.

The only thing that I can say is that my water pump just went out, I did not want too replace it my self so I called the dealer for fun, labor only was 298.00, the pump was 65.00 and the belt was 56.00 I told them thanks but no thanks so I'm going to rebuild one that I have sitting on the floor, have all the parts too do it anyway.
