None of those axles came with lockers, and the limited slip that came in some 9.25" axles isn't very good.

They may not have, but I have seen some 8.75 with lockers in them on CL, but they have really tall gearing, like 2.73 tall lol. What about a Dana 44?? Found a few of those. I'm just trying to see what my options are, might just go with a Ford 9" parts plenty, and easy to find.

The ford 9" would be a great alternative. LOTS of aftermarket support for those.......

that is why i was thinking lunchbox locker. will most likely be the best bang for your $$. you can get disk brake conversion kits for the axle that is in your truck.

the stock limited slips are not bad if they are maintained properly with the special limited slip additive that most people don't usually use when they do an oil change and burn up the LSD. i got 2 stock LSD's and they both still work as they should

Funny you bring up the additive, because I have a 05 2500 with the Dana 60 with the lsd, and it doesn't require the additive, but the half tons do, lol. But your right not allot of people know, or just don't care about adding the friction modifier, kinda why I don't want to buy a used lsd. A few people told me to weld it, I refuse to do that, quick, easy, cheap yep........ But what if I need to tear it apart again?? Not so easy, not so cheap, and definitely not so quick.

i don't know how the dana 60's don't require it but the 9.25's do. you would think they all work the same and require the additive to function properly. that is why i was thinking lunch box locker. practically they same as welding the gears without welding the gears and you can install it in your driveway in a hour or so. they can also be had for pretty cheap compared to replacing the whole differential assembly.

Who makes the lunch box locker?? All I found on summit was the whole carrier assembly that the ring gear bolts to and the axles slip in.

looks like summit only carries a few for the 9.25 but this one seems to have pretty good reviews.

Your 05 Ram 2500 doesn't have a Dana 60, 02 was the last year Chrysler put Dana axles in the HD rams, 03 and newer have an AAM 9.25 front and either an AAM 10.5 or 11.5 rear axle. The reason they don't require the additive is because they use a gear driven limited slip similar to a Detroit Truetrac, that doesn't have clutches. Clutch type limited slips wear out no matter if you use the additive or not, all the additive does is allow the clutches to slip easier, making the unit less effective. For a lunchbox locker I believe Powertrax is the only company that makes one for the Chrysler 9.25.

Lol, after reading that, your right. I don't know why I was thinking I had the dana 60. I was researching this after I bought it 5 years ago. I have the aam 10.5 in the rear. I think I remember that the 11.5 was put in the diesel powered trucks, Or was for the duel wheel trucks, something like that, It's been awhile. But the lsd works good in my 2500, I can smoke both rears on dry pavement no problem.
