1990 Ramcharger Magnum swap
I've been searching unsuccessfully here but I was looking for information on installing a 2000 Ram powertrain into a 1990 dodge ram. I'm planning on taking the entire electrical system from the donor truck. The issue I just ran into is the
241d tcase won't mate up to the 46re tailhousing. Spline and studs the same but 46rh tailhousing is deeper. Anyone know of an adapter for this or solutions? Thanks!

I'm planned on using the Magnum engine/46re combo along with all the pcm and wiring I can transfer. The issue is the 241d tcase from the 1990 does not mate properly with the 2000 46re which had the 231d tcase. The governor in the rh makes extension housing like 4 inches longer. I could put the OD housing from the rh to the re but the speed sensor is different location (and probably different signal). I've been considering attempting to change the input shaft of the tcases. One is shorter than the other. Or if somebody made an adapter of some sort to properly space the tcase. 2 of those options will require driveshaft mods. I'm really stuck on this one

See if you can find a t-case from a newer trans....
Also, you are going to have some issues with the electrics. A LOT changed in 98, EVERYTHING goes thru the PCM, all the gauges, including oil pressure, and gas gauge.... the cluster gets its clue on what to do with the gauges over the communications bus. None of the gauges are direct read any more. You would be better off using electronics from a 96 or 97 truck, but, that would also require changing the electronics in the trans, as those changed in 2000.
Cluster is different shape from 97 to 98 as well, I think.... so, newer cluster won't fit in older dash. I don't remember if the neutral safety switch changed as well, 5 pin instead of 3 pin??

Do you know what would happen if I didn't use the cluster. The speedo runs off the rear WSS and I can run independent sensors for oil and temp to the original dash. Will the pcm freak out without it? Guess I'll find out eventually lol. Thank you for your help so far. I really appreciate it

Well quick update. I got brave and tore down both tcase and switched the input shafts. Same gear just a shorter input collar and it bolts up. I'll have to have modified drive shafts made but it looks like it'll work. Be a while before I get it running but I'll add updates. Electronics is next on the list!
