If you can get to the starter, give it a good smack with something ( not a BFG) what happened is the BENDIX is not energizing, the starter motor is spinning but the bendix is not pushung the gear forward into the path of the flywheel. trying to start it with a low charge will create an arc spot on the bendix. Sometimes you can jiggle it to a clean spot by hitting it and the inner spring tension will let it work.
This will just get you home though, you will need to change the starter because eventually, it will land on that dead spot and you will be stuck again.

thats true, sometimes you can wack the starter with a rubber mallet or something and it'll work for a while. its worth a try anyway.

Gary you seem new to the site but you must know a ton, in the past couple weeks anyone with a question you seem to know the answer. Were you a mechanic or something? Welcome to the forum you're already a ton of help. Thanks!
