Default Cam ?'s

Ok so I come home from Iraq in 2 months time to start buying parts with all my hard earned deployment money. I bought a set of headers they are just waiting for me to get home and install them. Now i want to buy my cam but i dont know anything about them so does anybody have any suggestion or tips , and do i need mechanical or hydraulic lifters ? i plan on doing a diy with a ton of pics when i do this . I dont want to pay some one just seems more logical to do it myself . Plus i will finally get pics of my R/T up on here.

krc are dip****s. Marty is a ****ing moron and will screw you over faster then the IRS.

Talk to John Mercedes at Southeast Performance... he will do you good. http://www.southeastperformance.com/

Also if you want a cam, i have one for sell. Its a Comp Cam its a pretty big cam and sounds very good, you will need new lifters atleast .600lift, and better flowing heads and exhaust, intake, ect...

Im selling it for 250$ and it comes with hardened push-rods for 1.7 rockers.

If your interested let me know ill send you the specs and photos of it.

You will need something that pulls at least 15# of vacumm otherwise it will tos cels with the PCM unless you go stand alone.

I was going to use this cam in my truck but it burnt down.. so i have no use for it anymore.

He means a new engine. Older engines don't have good compression/seals. The vacuum is pulled when the piston goes down, and if it's not a good seal, you get less vacuum. Most new engines run 20 to 22# of vacuum at idle, and 0 at WOT.

Thats not what i mean at all.... but you are right.

The 15 is for your brake booster and PCM, a lot of cams drop for vacuum and will cause Check Engine lights to pop up since the PCM is programmed to work with at least 15 in our motors if it drops below this the pcm will toss codes, making it getting inspected a pure d pain in the *** unless you got a hook up.

Due to you living in Texas inspections are a bitch i know...

yeah those inspections do suck and i dont have a hook up for them so the cutouts that i wanted to put on my exaust are going to have to wait ,being im military next tie i got my moms or my mother inlaws house in FL i might just get it registered there no inspections. So what will i have to do to make sure i pull the 15# of vacuum ?

Cuttouts are fine, just ziptie the rear o2 to the frame rail and put the pre cat o2s in the pipe, open or closed cutouts will pass no matter what, even if its catless.

I had a cutout on my old exhaust, it passed.

I wasnt planning on changing out my heads yet i was thinking next year when i deploy sending them off to get port and polished so youre cam might not be what im looking for ,im sure my intake could take it and exhaust is one of the things im working on at this moment also . so any other suggestions on sizes ,? also what type of lifters are in our trucks ?

hydraulic lifters and i would do cam last, or save up and do head/cam swap at the same time, and when you do cam i suggest a new double roller timing chain, they are cheap, good upgrade.
