Transmissions
When the weather is cold the Transmission seems to go into netural when at a stop sign or traffic light. When given some gas, it returns to drive with a jolt. The problem disappears after about a half hour of driving and during summer. Changed Fluid and filter. Fluid looked good with no glitter or particles noted. There was some dark thick sludge clinging to the pan magnet. There are no diagnostic codes recorded. Any help would be appreciated.
Master Tech,
I am working on a 2000 Dakota, 3.9 with 5 spd manual. I lost the clutch on the way home and found the hydraulic line blown out of the slave cylinder. Slave was corroded and cracked where the line attached. After replacing the slave cylinder and multiple attempts to bleed the clutch with negative results. The clutch is not engaging at all. I can put my fingers or screwdriver in the bell housing and actuate the Clutch fork/Throw out lever (whatever it is called). There seems to be no resistance to it at all. I can push it fwd and it stays there. In my small mechanical mind it seems the lever is not putting any pressure on the throw out bearing to actuate the clutch? Could I have a busted fork/spoon/throw out lever??

I took my 04 5.7 Durango in for an oil change and get a call back that the transmission won't go into a single gear. Have had no warning signs. I think it was tampered with... Is it possible for a tranny to just fail with no warning?
See thats why you do your own oil lol I've heard of shops doing that. A lot of people go in for something simple and end up having to pay thousands to get repairs done. I wouldnt let them touch it personally.
Well, saw your thread and thought I'd see what you'd suggest.
Vehicle: 1999 Dodge Dakota Sport Club Cab
Engine: 5.2L (318)
Transmission: Automatic
Problem: Won't go, meaning, move forward, drive in 3rd gear. Not that I can't get it into 3rd gear. lol And 2nd gear seems to have the same problem. It doesn't want to move or go forward with ease or like it should. It goes but it's almost as if a caliper went bad and is stuck on grabbing the rotor. Which was the first thing I thought it was and checked as I've had both front calipers go bad. Just thought one of them went bad again. FWIW, 1st gear is working and works fine.
However, after getting home and the truck sitting for a while, seems like there was never anything wrong. Transmission works fine now/again.
History: I bought the vehicle with 63K plus miles on it in 2004. In 2005, I had the same issue I'm having now. Having purchased an extended warranty, I had the transmission rebuilt. The truck isn't driven a lot but it is driven. The truck now has 86,300 or so miles and as I said, it's doing the same damn thing it was in 2005. But as you can see by the math, it almost has 20K miles since the rebuild.
The vehicle was in an accident. Don't know if they may or may not have anything to do with it and because I don't know if it does or can or not, I'm putting it out there. From what I can tell based on where the paint and bondo is coming off, lol, it appears to have been hit on the right side about where the club cab section and bed meet.
Since this appears to be the same issue as in 2005, could there be a problem with or in the transmission as far as the internal specs. go or could the accident have dome something?
I can't afford either one but do you recommend getting the same transmission rebuilt again or get a used one? Or do you recommend doing or trying something else first.
Thanks in advance.
P.S.
Of course the transmission rebuild is out of warranty.

New to the forum - and appreciate your help alot - I recently purchased a 2001 2500 slt 4wd - 163k - V10 - at first I didnt notice any issues but now I am noticing that I have to let off the pedal a touch for the tranny to shift into 3rd - any suggestions - thanks again!!
UPDATE:
Since putting it in my last post it got me thinking. That is, after letting it sit for a while it seemed to be working fine. So, I went out and drove it a while. Leaving the drive way it wouldn't shift from 1st to 2nd. Stopped and manually put it in first then back to drive. Upon turning onto the main road, the check engine light came on. I'd point out that it hadn't come on previous to this.
So I went home and got my OBD II Autoscanner and connected it. And it came back with code P0720 Output Speed Sensor circuit malfunction. FWIW, to make sure, I erased the code and drove it again. Same thing. So, I'll start there. Wouldn't be nice it all this was this time was a $10 part? And GOD, I sure hope that isn't what it was in 2005 and I paid for a rebuild I didn't need. But then, I'm getting ahead of myself in thinking this is the problem. Actually, not getting ahead of myself. Simply wishful thinking, and hoping on my part is all. I mean, I'd really, really hate to have to charge a rebuild or used transmission.
But I'd still like to hear your, or anyone elses thoughts and opinions......
