Default Sticking Gear Shifter

I have a 2004 Dakota with automatic transmission and recently that gear shifter has begun to stick in park. I've tried having brake light switch replaced, the usual brake press, and a number of other things. Sometimes it will go in to gear after a few minutes struggle but most usually it's only after pulling down with both hands and lending some weight to it. I'm not sure what to do to get it fixed.

Good morning, I have a couple questions. I am going to remove my sons transmission today to install a new clutch and related parts. It is a 97 dakota shorty 2wd 4 banger.
I removed two aft fasteners from the little floor console but cannot find the forward one so I can remove the stick. Also I can't find my torque specs for the 18 mm bolts on the bell housing. I think the flywheel bolts are 95 foot pounds and the pressure plate are 25 foot pounds. Both use red locktite.
I did search but this is so big now that it is hard to find anything.
Thank you very much.

There should be 4 bolts that hold the shift tower in. Once unbolted should just pull right out. Im not sure of the torque specs. Only thing I know is bellhousing bolts torque at 28 ft.lb

Thanks Dodgeguy, the small console is differant than that. The bellhousing bolts
on there are way tighter than that. Just my luck. On reinstall, I will torque them to
only to 28 ft.lb.

Hello everyone. This is my first post here and I am glad I found this thread. I have a 1999 V6 Dakota with an automatic transmission and roughly 187,000 miles. I recently have been having issues with my transmission. The most frequent is issue is that it feels like the overdrive doesn't engage but on that same note I'm not to sure what my RPM's should be at when cruising at 70mph. The other issue that comes and goes is sometimes the truck does not down shift all the way and it requires me to take off in a higher gear. I drained the fluid and put in a new filter. While I have the pan off, is there anything (sensor or otherwise) I should replace before buttoning transmission pan? Thanks for all the help in advance.

Mike
