Okay thanks. I'm having problems finding one to replace it with that isn't brand new ( not wanting to spend that much money ) and I found this in the classifieds.

Will this fit on my truck? I know they have the same engine..

You should be posting in the 2nd gen ram section, but I would start by replacing the governor solenoid and transducer.

Just remember, buyer beware. I have seen problems with a lot of sites. When buying from anyone on any forums.

You mean as in the seal between the tcase and tranny or some other ones? Is this a potentionally catastrophic problem?

Cant thank you enough for all the info! I have a 00 dakota quad cab 4x4 with a 4.7 and an automatic. Would love to take it on a jeep trail or two but I am scared to death of damaging the tranny. It already shifts hard sometimes and after coming to a stop( maybe a second or two) i feel a light clunk from the tranny. Its a different clunk than a u-joint. Feels like its coming from the tranny itself. I am so paranoid about automatics! Any info would be greatly appretiated!!!

I was saying about seals inside the transmission. Not the seal on the extension housing and transfer box.

There a few things that maybe causing the sound. The backlash in the rear diff, the transmission solenoid pack or the park sprocket on the output shaft, which is normal.

will a 5.9l transmission fit in place of 1997 3.9 L transmission? In the process of swapping out the 3.9 to a 5.9 and figured I'd go ahead and swap out tranny.

Also do you know if the 3.9l differential 2wd is the same as the 5.9l differential 2wd???
