I am planning a stroker motor for my truck and I would like to remove all electronics. Would the a/c and heater work without a computer? Would a wiring harness from a1970s Challenger work as a base for modification or would it be better to make my own wiring harness? And last is the speedo input for a 727 on the trans?

 

You can make the heater and a/c work without the computer. Right now the PCM controls the compressor clutch.

The 727 has a mechanical speedometer output, yes, on the case.

You do know that you won't have any dash gauges at all without the computer? The gauges are all run off of the PCM, including the fuel level. From the PCM the information goes over a single wire PCI bus to the instrument cluster - a computer in itself.

I was planning on making a custom gauge cluster with Autometer gauges. Is ther a different compressor clutch that I can use? Would the cruise control still work or not?

 

You don't need a different a/c clutch. It's run by 12 volts. All the PCM does it turn it on/off via a relay.

No on the cruise. It's part of the PCM.

 

Is there a cruise control I can retrofit? So If I had a relay for the a/c clutch that would turn it off and on?

 

You could probably pick up one of those universal cruise control kits and install it.

Depending upon how you wire up the a/c controls you may not need the relay.

Like Dan said, it is doable. Throw an MSD ignition on it, autometer gauges, the A/C can be modified through the pressure switches and clutch relay, and the cruise might be able to be modified if you can snag the wires out of the column.

Your problem will be the odometer. It's part of the cluster thus driven by the PCM, which gets signal from the sensor on the rear end (same sensor as the speedo). There is no mechanical speedometer/odometer drive that I know of.

 

If I go with a mechanical odometer or whatever they are called (the ones used in old cars) I can roll it to the correct mileage, can't I? And would MSD 6A ignition work? My dad bought several of them back in the 80s and still have a couple left.

 

I run a 6 plus and HVC 6 coil. 6A would be fine.

Missed the part about switching to a 727. Never mind on odometer/speedo then. I forget how the vehicle laws work on odometer changes, but there is protocol for it.

google'd- there is an official "Odometer change notice" sticker that you fill out and affix to the B pillar driver's door jam.

 

I just read that the 727 does not have od but the 46 RH does. Is the 46 as strong as.the 727? I would rather just roll the odometer than put a sticker on my truck but that might just be me?
